The Las Vegas Raiders had high hopes for 2022 when they hired offensive guru Josh McDaniels as their head coach and traded for All-Pro WR Davante Adams to spark the offense.

Instead, the team dropped from 10-7 to 6-11 and they finished well out of the AFC Playoffs race. Now Derek Carr is out at QB, Jimmy Garoppolo is in, and Vegas is hoping the team learned much from last year’s disappointment. The Raiders can make a splash at the 2023 NFL Draft with the No. 7 overall pick.

Bookies.com oddsmaker Adam Thompson has used his resources of NFL contacts developed over 20 years covering the league and the NFL Draft to create his hypothetical NFL futures odds on who gets selected No. 7 overall by the Las Vegas Raiders in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Who Will The Raiders Take In 2023 NFL Draft?

This offseason hasn’t been the smoothest in franchise history. The Raiders added Jakobi Meyers but traded away TE Darren Waller. The team lost its top two QBs, didn’t get enough for Waller according to some media outlets, and the offensive and defensive lines - the biggest problem areas last season - were not really addressed to satisfaction.

There is no offensive lineman in the 2023 NFL Draft that is considered a true Top 10 talent. Peter Skoronski of Northwestern and Paris Johnson Jr. of Ohio State could be good options at tackle or guard, but they’re considered in the 10-15 range, and would be a bit of a reach at No. 7. Still, need could trump value.

There is star potential to be had on the D-line, and the Raiders are in a prime position to take a Day One playmaker.

Clemson edge rusher Myles Murphy may be the top remaining available at his position, assuming Tyree Wilson of Texas Tech and Will Anderson Jr. of Alabama are off the board by No. 7. Murphy has ideal size for the position and a burst that makes him disruptive – he led Clemson in sacks and tackles for loss the last two seasons. The ceiling is just as high for Murphy as it is the two aforementioned standouts, it may just take a little longer.

Georgia defensive lineman Jalen Carter could be the immediate impact guy that Vegas covets most. When the Chicago Bears owned the No. 1 overall pick, Carter was considered a strong candidate to be taken first overall. Then he was involved in a fatal car accident, which landed him on probation for a year among other restitution. Maturity was considered an issue for him and that offseason incident certainly didn’t help.

That the Raiders are also the team of Henry Ruggs, the WR who killed a woman in a drunk driving crash in Vegas in 2021, has reportedly not been lost on management. Some suggest Vegas won't take Carter at No. 7 for that very reason, though coach Josh McDaniels has said nothing is off the table.

Would the Raiders bypass Carter? He’s been compared to Aaron Donald, an inside powerhouse against both the pass and the run, with the ability to beat guards and tackles. He’ll probably be the first defensive tackle off the board. With a run on quarterbacks in the top five picks and the aforementioned Wilson and Anderson likely gone too, Carter might fall right to Vegas. They'd have a tough decision to make.

Christian Gonzalez Odds to Join the Las Vegas Raiders

The draft’s top cornerback, Christian Gonzalez of Oregon, should be around at No. 7 as well. There aren’t many plug-and-play CBs these days, but Gonzalez is considered one of them. Vegas doesn’t have a shutdown corner, especially one that can handle the game’s more-physical talents. Gonzalez would be a boost to a secondary that ranked 29th vs. the pass. He's one of the most likely selections at No. 7, as per our NFL betting market.

Devon Witherspoon of Illinois isn't as physical as Gonzalez, but his speed and agility have put him right next to, or above, Gonzalez on some team draft boards. The Detroit Lions could take a stab at cornerback at No. 6, but one of these two CBs should be available.

The Field is led by Anthony Richardson of Florida and C.J. Stroud of Ohio State, two first-round QBs that might, or might not, be around at No. 7. Texas Tech edge Tyree Wilson is probably gone by this point, but the 2023 NFL Draft is shaping up to be highly unpredictable.
