On paper, the numbers suggest the 1-3 Minnesota Vikings aren’t all that much better than the 0-4 Detroit Lions and that NFL betting on the Lions to pull off the upset on Sunday might be worth the risk.

However, the Lions are 0-2 on the road this season. The three teams that have beaten Minnesota this season own a combined record of 10-2. And Detroit has lost eight in a row going back to last season.

Suddenly, Detroit doesn’t look so promising as an NFL pick.

Check out the latest Lions vs. Vikings odds, betting lines, injury report and more.

Lions vs Vikings Key Matchups

Vikings QB Kirk Cousins vs Detroit Defense: Cousins was once a hero in Michigan when he played at Michigan State. As Vikings QB, he’s not so beloved in the state. Cousins is unbeaten against the Lions with Minny. He’s only finished with a passer rating of less than 111.4 in one of those games. Cousins has thrown for 16 touchdowns against one interception when facing the Lions in his career.

Justin Jefferson & Adam Thielen vs Lions Secondary: Between them, Thielen (24-4) and Jefferson (26-3) have caught 50 passes, seven for TDs. Go to your favorite NFL betting apps and get prop bets down on both these guys. They figure to have their way against a Detroit secondary that is lousy and without 2020 first-round pick Jeff Okudah (Achilles).

Run Games vs Run Defenses: Both of these teams are proving capable of running the ball, but not so good at stopping the run. Minnesota has allowed over 200 yards on the ground in successive games. Detroit has given up two 100-yard rushing games to backs already this season.

Lions vs Vikings Player Props

Lions QB Jared Goff over 242.5 passing yards ( -115 at DraftKings ➜: Goff has gone over this number in three of four games and easily in two of those games.

Lions WR Kalif Raymond anytime TD ( +350 FanDuel ➜): Raymond, who scored twice last week, has become Goff’s go-to receiver. He’s had 16 targets the past two games after just six in the first two.

Lions vs Vikings Moneyline

Minnesota is listed as the -335 favorite at online sportsbooks on the moneyline. The Lions are 0-8 straight up in their last eight games. The Vikings are 7-0 straight up in their last seven games against the Lions.

Already among the NFL’s thinnest rosters, through injuries Detroit is without two starters on the offensive line (C Frank Ragnow and T Taylor Decker) and three starters on defense (Okudah, DE Trey Flowers and DE Romeo Okwara). The Lions are 0-7 in their last seven visits to Minnesota. Unless you're a die-hard Michigan sports betting fan, they aren’t worth the upset play and there’s not enough profit in betting Minnesota.

Lions vs Vikings Totals

Both the Lions and Vikings are 2-2 on the total this season. Detroit is 1-1 at home and 1-1 on the road. Last season, both clubs were solid over plays. The Vikings went 11-5. Their 68.8% over rate was No. 3 in the NFL. Detroit wasn’t far behind at 10-6.

The Lions are the No. 29 scoring defense in the NFL this season, allowing 29.8 points per game. And they’ve given up at least 34 points in three of their past four games against Minnesota. The Vikes have scored at least 27 points in nine of their past 10 home games. Even at a total betting sites offering of 50, the over seems a safe bet.
