Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford has begun to shop himself around the NFL .

The Rams have given Stafford’s agent permission to speak with other teams to see what might be available in return if the Rams choose to move on to another QB – perhaps Aaron Rodgers. The Rams have shown little indication that they’d be willing to meet whatever contract market price Stafford would command.

Stafford won a Super Bowl with the Rams after several years in Detroit. He has piqued interest among multiple NFL teams despite being 37. Reports have him being coveted by the Giants and Raiders, among others. Stafford sits just 15th among the NFL’s highest-paid players. But he’ll likely want to move up that chart if he, the Rams, and someone else can work out a deal.

Last season, the Rams won the NFC West and bounced Minnesota in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. Stafford was stable at QB, despite working with a diminished receiving unit. He completed 65.8 of his pass attempts for 3,762 yards, 20 TDs, and just 8 picks.

Stafford carries a $49.6 million cap hit in 2025 and $53.6 million in 2026 under his current deal. A dead cap hit of more than $70 million for the next 2 seasons is far too much for Rams to absorb by simply cutting him this offseason. The Rams best hope is a two-team bidding war that could push up his price to something reasonable in terms of draft picks – and eat his salary.

Matthew Stafford 2025 Team-By-Team Breakdown

Las Vegas Raiders +200

Buzz: Tom Brady has been courting Matthew Stafford as the latest answer to the Raiders’ never-ending quarterback problem. Brady recently hosted Stafford at Brady’s Montana manse and went skiing together. “Brady has been actively trying to convince Stafford to join the Raiders,” FOX Sports NFL Insider Jordan Schultz reported. The Raiders used 3 different starting QBs last season. Currently, Aidan O’Connell and Desmond Ridder are the only 2 QBs on the team’s roster.

Pittsburgh Steelers +350

Buzz: The Steelers reached the playoffs and lost in the first round – again – this past season. Russell Wilson (11) and Justin Fields (6) split the starting QB duties last season. The Steelers have long said they hope to sign one of the would-be free agents this offseason. But that was before Matthew Stafford became an option. Stafford might be the missing ingredient to get Mike Tomlin his first playoff win since January 2017.

Los Angeles Rams +600

Buzz: Perhaps cooler heads will prevail once Matthew Stafford and his agent get a look at the NFL landscape. The Rams have no reason to renegotiate Stafford’s deal. And they will pay him another $100 million if he plays through his deal that ends in 2026. The Rams, however, may have peaked in this current cycle. Cooper Kupp will be playing elsewhere next season. And the team could be on the hunt for draft picks and make Kupp and Stafford a package deal.

New York Giants +800

Buzz: The Big Apple Back Pages were abuzz with news that the Giants have turned their lonely eyes to Stafford as their latest savor. The Giants, much like the Raiders, are at Ground Zero when it comes to the QB position and have been rumored as a potential landing spot for any QB who has or will hit the market.

Seattle Seahawks +1000

Buzz: Geno Smith has kept the Seahawks in the playoff chase the past 3 seasons. But the team has yet to get over the proverbial postseason-victory hump since Russell Wilson’s departure. Matthew Stafford moving to another NFC West team is unlikely. Especially since his addition to the Seahawks’ roster could well make Seattle a favorite to win the division.

Cleveland Browns +1400

Buzz: The Browns lead the NFL in salary cap space eaten by injured quarterbacks. Deshaun Watson has started just 19 games since he signed a 5-year, $230 million deal with the Browns before the 2022 season. If the Browns release Watson, they’ll be on the hook for $172 million in dead cap space. That would hit in 2025 or be spread between 2025 and 2026, depending on the timing. So, any potential big-money free agent QB who might sound like a good fit in Cleveland, or be on the Browns’ fan wish list, is unlikely to play at Huntington Bank Field unless he’s wearing a visiting uniform.

New York Jets +1500

Buzz: Imagine Aaron Rodgers playing for the Rams in 2025? And Matt Stafford dishing for Gang Green? There’s no better way to guarantee a monumental comeback season for Rodgers than to have the QB he is replacing end up playing for the Jets.

The Field +700

Buzz: Any team is one injury away.
