Packers vs 49ers Betting Analysis

Heading into the season, the Week 9 matchup between the Packers and 49ers figured to be one of the best Thursday Night Football games in recent memory. These are two of the most historic teams in the league, and we have seen some fantastic games between these two over the years.

But that likely won’t be the case on Thursday as the 49ers will be without several key starters, including Jimmy Garoppolo, George Kittle, Nick Bosa and Richard Sherman. The team will look nothing like the one we saw in the Super Bowl last year as it has been ravished with injuries.

The Packers are a big moneyline favorite in this game, and we say grab them with the best odds at DraftKings.

The Packers are also a relatively easy pick against the spread at -5. It is worth noting that the Packers have not had much success vs. the 49ers against the spread as of late, covering just once in their previous eight games. The Packers struggle when teams can create pressure with their front four, but will the banged-up defensive line be able to get to Aaron Rodgers?

Despite all of their injuries on defense, the 49ers have allowed only 21.6 points per game this season and have surrendered the fourth-fewest passing yards per game. If their defense can pressure Rodgers, they will give themselves a chance to stay in this game. We don’t see that happening.

As long as the Packers can avoid turning the ball over too often and can create enough chunk plays in the passing game, they should be able to score at will. Green Bay is averaging over 31 points per game on offense this season and has the second-most time of possession in the NFL.

There is a bit of a concern about the Packers' run defense, and the one thing the 49ers can do well is pound the rock. But without a reliable passing game, expect Green Bay to load up against the run. It would be quite a surprise if the 49ers were able to muster 20 or more points in this game, so take the Packers with confidence on Thursday night to cover at William Hill.

As for the over/under, the point total is set at 50 points. As previously mentioned, it could be challenging for the 49ers to score two or three touchdowns in this game. That means the Packers will have to do most of the scoring and have been up-and-down in that department this season.

Additionally, the under has hit in four of the last six home games for the 49ers as they use their rushing attack to bleed the clock. On defense, they still find a way to create a pass rush and should be able to hold Rodgers and the Packers under 30 points.

Typically, the over is a good bet on Thursday night games, but expect this to be a relatively low-scoring game with both teams trying to establish the run early. Bet the under to hit with FOX Bet as the Packers to emerge with the win.
