The New England Patriots cut ties with Antonio Brown Friday afternoon, 11 days after he signed with the defending Super Bowl champions.

New England immediately became the Super Bowl favorite with the blockbuster move made after Brown’s relationship with the Oakland Raiders deteriorated beyond repair. The Patriots’ Super Bowl odds moved from +700 to +500 at 888sport hours after Brown signed, while their odds to win the AFC Championship went from +400 to +200.

The Patriots were +350 to win the Super Bowl at 888sport as of Friday afternoon – Brown had four receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown in his first and only game with New England, a 43-0 win Sunday at Miami.

An ESPN report unveiled screenshots of texts Brown allegedly sent Wednesday to a woman who last week accused him of sexual misconduct while she was working at his home in 2017. He is also facing a separate sexual assault allegation in a civil suit filed earlier this month by another woman, his former trainer.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted the following statement from the Patriots:

“The New England Patriots are releasing Antonio Brown. We appreciate the hard work of many people over the past 11 days, but we feel that it is best to move in a different direction at this time.”

Impact Brown's Release Has On Odds

FanDuel listed the Patriots as 22-point home favorites over the New York Jets before the latest Brown news broke and moved it down to -21 late Friday afternoon. They hadn’t adjusted any future bets, listing the Patriots at +370 to win the Super Bowl and +180 to win the AFC Championship.

Those numbers will likely fluctuate a bit in the coming days, but a drastic change seems unlikely even with the Patriots losing a generational talent. New England outscored its first two opponents 76-3 with minimal contributions from the star receiver.

Even though the lines haven’t adjusted yet, those who believe the Patriots needed Brown to win it all this year could look at prices on other contenders. The Chiefs are currently +600 and the Rams +900 at 888sport – their value might decrease slightly should the books adjust New England’s odds given Brown’s departure.

Where Brown goes from here is anyone’s guess. The Patriots are the third team to get rid of him over the past year with Brown embroiled in turmoil and controversy for the majority of times. Agent Drew Rosenhaus tweeted Friday afternoon that Brown is still looking to play in the NFL.
