After a season in which there was no NHL All-Star Game, it will return this weekend in the glitz and glam of Las Vegas.

It is a weekend of fun and festivities, but there is also real competition among the four divisions in the league, and plenty of opportunities for NHL betting enthusiasts.

The game is Saturday at 3 p.m. ET at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV. The game can be seen on ABC and ESPN+. There is also a skills competition Friday night, starting at 7:30 p.m. EST on ESPN.

All four league divisions are represented. The two divisions from each conference play each other in one 20-minute game, at three-on-three. The winners of those two games play for the championship, in another 20-minute game.

If any of the games are tied after regulation, a best-of-three shootout commences, with additional rounds necessary until there’s a winner.

The pick: The Metropolitan Division suffered a blow Thursday when living legend Alex Ovechkin was placed into COVID protocol. He will be unable to play. The Central Division suffered a blow with the recent injury to captain Nathan MacKinnon. I like the Atlantic to win the 2022 NHL All-Star Game.

I like the Atlantic because of goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy. He’s the best goalie in the tournament, and the forwards of the Atlantic have some serious firepower, led by Auston Matthews.

The pick: Gotta go with McDavid. His straightaway speed remains the gold standard for all NHL skaters. This will be Makar’s first appearance in the competition. He’s fast, all right, but McDavid is just at another level.

The pick: With guys such as Shea Weber and Zdeno Chara not competing this year, I actually think Adam Pelech has a good chance at upsetting favorite Hedman in this competition. He’s got a shot that can regularly exceed 100 mph. I’m taking Pelech at +300 on betting sites.

The 2022 NHL All-Star Game comes too soon this year, but in exciting news for hockey betting fans north of the border, Ontario sports betting looks set to go live with multiple operators - including PointsBet Ontario - on April 4.

Sebastian Aho +600 ➜
Jonathan Marchessault +700 ➜
Johnny Gaudreau +700 ➜

Odds via FanDuel ➜ and accurate as of publication.

The pick: There is a new format to the accuracy shooting contest this year. As opposed to hitting targets in all four corners of the net, there is now a Vegas-themed “21” competition that involves more shooting choices and more strategic thinking.

As for the winner, I will go with Sebastian Aho at +600 NHL odds. He has a very accurate wrist shot and should be excited, as a first-time participant.

Frederik Andersen +500 ➜
Jack Campbell +500 ➜
John Gibson +600 ➜
Thatcher Demko +750 ➜

Odds via FanDuel ➜ and accurate as of publication.

The pick: This competition started in 2018, and the object is to save as many pucks as possible against an opposing division's shooter in NHL shootout fashion. The goaltender with the longest "save streak" wins.

It's hard to bet against Vasilevskiy. As I said before, he’s the best goalie at the ASG. I’ll take him at +430 on betting apps.
