We’ve come a long way from the days of outright golf betting as the lone option ahead of the year’s biggest tournaments.

The PGA Championship golf odds for the second major of the season are absolutely loaded with choices, from matchups to finishing positions, winning scores, and hundreds of prop bets and exotics.

Those have been in the works for a while now, but we’re seeing the emergence of even more specific, hole-by-hole golf betting options for Round 1.

For example, you can bet that Patrick Cantlay (+135 at sports betting apps) will beat playing partners Rickie Fowler (+160) and Phil Mickelson (+175) on the par-4 second hole Thursday.

The group action is also available throughout the tournament, with live hole-by-hole odds as the tournament plays out. With so many options, we looked at a few of our favorite props, exotics and matchup bets ahead of the 2023 PGA Championship at Oak Hill.

2023 PGA Championship Picks & Prop Bets

Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy or Patrick Cantlay to Win

Odds: +215 at FanDuel

It’s been a long time since two players have battled for the No. 1 world ranking quite like Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm. They’ve been the clear-cut top two ever since Scheffler won the 2022 Masters, after which Rahm responded by taking the green jacket at Augusta National in 2023.

The Field is -250 for this wager, but all the pre-tourney buzz has been about the precision required and mental fortitude it will take to win this tournament. It’s a beast off the tee, the rough is nasty and the greens will be difficult to hold.

We believe the best in the world will shine again this week at Oak Hill, and Patrick Cantlay is actually our official pick to win the tournament. Add in Scheffler, Rahm and McIlroy, and we absolutely like the big guns vs. the field at +215 odds.

Under 16.5 Players Under Par

Odds: -125 at DraftKings

This is one of our most confident plays of the week. Oak Hill is a brutally demanding test in perfect conditions, but it’s going to be downright diabolical at times this week with frigid temps.

All the players have been talking about what a difficult course this is, and that’s in line with what we’ve seen specifically from this major in recent years.

Only 12 players finished under par last year at Southern Hills, while 16 players finished in the red at Kiawah Island. And there were only six players under par when Brooks Koepka ran away from the field in 2019 at Bethpage Black.

The PGA of America has done a far better job than the USGA in recent years in terms of setups. They’ve provided fair, difficult tests at interesting courses and proved you don’t need to stretch them to 8,000+ yards to challenge players and modern equipment.

We expect more of the same this year, and we’ll be stunned if more than 17 players are able to finish under par come Sunday afternoon

Russell Henley, First-Round Leader

Odds: +8000 at BetMGM

This is our big longshot play for the opening round. He’s available for a first-round top-five at +1400 at betting sites as well, but we’re going all the way. Henley has always been a fast starter, and he held a share of the first-round lead at the 2021 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines.

He was fourth on Tour in first-round scoring average last season, and he’s been inside the top 15 in that department for three consecutive years.

Henley has also been off ever since a T-19 finish at the RBC Heritage last month, so he’ll be well-rested and ready to go from the jump. He does tee off later in the afternoon, when the wind might pick up a little bit.

But he’ll avoid the likely frost delay and overly-chilly conditions in the morning. Don’t be surprised if he makes a move up the board at the end of the day.

Tommy Fleetwood Over Sam Burns

Odds: -110 at DraftKings

This matchup caught our eye immediately. Sam Burns has been playing great golf, as he showcased by winning the Match Play in Austin. But he’s coming off a missed cut at the Wells Fargo and the irons haven’t been as sharp as they were earlier in the year.

Fleetwood has quietly played his way back inside the top-25 in the Official World Golf Rankings, and his game has looked on point throughout the bag this month. He’s money off the tee, the irons look sound and he’s been making a lot of putts lately.

He’s also the far more accomplished major player with five top-10 finishes, including a T-4 at the 2022 British Open and T-5 at the 2022 PGA Championship. Fleetwood has been building a ton of confidence and we expect him to seriously contend. We like Fleetwood in the 72-hole matchup over Burns.

Christian Bezuidenhout Top-40 Finish

Odds: +330 at FanDuel

Bezuidenhout doesn’t have much pop off the tee, which makes it extremely tough to contend at Oak Hill.

But he’s solid everywhere else, keeps it in the fairway with the driver and doesn’t make many bogeys, which is a great way to ho-hum yourself into the top-40 at one of these things. The irons have been strong lately, and he’s finished top 40 in four of his last six events.

This could be a fun sweat on Sunday afternoon, and we’ll take a shot on Bezuidenhout for a top-40 in Rochester.
