The RBC Heritage was always a sleepy tournament with a modest field, allowing players and daily fantasy sports enthusiasts to catch their breath after another week at Augusta National.

Not anymore. This week, perhaps more than any other, we see the enormous impact the new designated high-purse events have had on the schedule, with most of the top players in the world heading to Hilton Head for the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links.

Scottie Scheffler, the 2022 Masters champ, is the favorite at +850 on sports betting apps, while Jon Rahm is second at +1000 just a few days after winning his second career major at the Masters.

Rory McIlroy is one of the few A-listers who won’t be in attendance, having withdrawn after a disappointing missed cut at Augusta. Otherwise, the golf betting and DFS action will be hot and heavy with an elite field at an old-school track that hasn’t been under this kind of spotlight in years.

2023 RBC Heritage DFS Picks By Price

11K-9K Range

Patrick Cantlay, $10,300: Cantlay didn’t gain any new fans over the weekend at Augusta National, with his slow pace of play becoming one of the major Masters talking points. Luckily, DFS isn’t a popularity contest and we don’t care how long it takes to get the ball in the hole. Cantlay lost a few strokes on the greens last week, but he finished third in Strokes Gained Approach and that’s an excellent sign at Harbour Town. Cantlay has finished T-7 or better here in four of his five career starts, including a solo second last season. He’s our pick to win, and we like him in the lineup.

Cameron Young, $9,600: Young is one of the longest hitters on Tour, but he’s fairly accurate off the tee and also top-20 in Strokes Gained Approach. That’s a dangerous combo at a course like this, where Young finished T-3 in 2022 during his RBC Heritage debut. He’s not the typical type of player you circle for a week like this, where it’s about fairways and greens and short hitters have a great chance. But the overall game has been so strong lately there’s no reason to think he won’t contend after a runner-up finish at the Match Play and T-7 at the Masters.

9K-8K Range

Tom Kim, $8,500: Kim is one of the most accurate players on Tour with the driver, so this figures to be an excellent course for him as he makes his RBC Heritage debut. The 20-year-old is fresh off a T-16 finish in his first Masters, his best result in six weeks. The putter has been average, but the irons are consistently strong and he’ll have a huge advantage off the tee with his propensity for tagging fairways. His youth is also an advantage after a long weekend for everyone at Augusta National, and we’re big on Kim’s chances around here.

Shane Lowry, $8,300: Lowry also finished T-16 alongside Kim last week, and we like him to improve on that result in Hilton Head. Lowry remains one of the best iron players on Tour, but he’s also accurate off the tee and has a good short game. It’s a perfect fit for a course at which he’s finished T-9 or better in three of his last four appearances, including a pair of T-3s. He was seventh overall in Strokes Gained Tee-to-Green at Augusta and this course is all about the ballstrikers. We like Lowry in the low $8,000s.

8K-7K Range

Justin Rose, $7,700: Such a quick turnaround from the Sunday marathon at Augusta isn’t exactly comforting, but we’re going with the 42-year-old Rose at this price. His Masters performance was solid if not spectacular, resulting in a T-16. The putter was hot and the irons have been sharp all year, plus this is another guy whose lack of pop off the tee isn’t a big deal at this course. We’ve seen older players win here, most recently with Stewart Cink getting it done in 2021, and we wouldn’t be surprised if Rose is right there in the mix on Sunday.

J.T. Poston, $7,300: The Postman hasn’t exactly set the world on fire so far in 2023, but he’s playing well enough and we like him to contend this week. Poston had a solid week with the irons for a T-34 finish at the Masters, where lack of driving distance always hurts him tremendously. But he loves playing in Hilton Head, where he’s been T-8 or better in three of his first four RBC Heritage starts – including a T-3 last year. He was T-10 at the Valspar last month, a similar course that rewards fairways and greens. This should be another good week for Poston, maybe his best of the year.

7K and Below

Hayden Buckley, $6,800: We’ve been high on Buckley’s potential for a while, and this should be another event that suits him. The 27-year-old keeps it in play off the tee, and he’s coming off a T-10 finish at the Valero Texas Open for his fifth top-20 result of the season. He’s not a short hitter, so he’ll have plenty of birdie opportunities if the short irons are dialed in. Buckley missed the cut in four straight events prior to Texas, but this course should be the best fit for his game. We like Buckley out of the bargain bin.

Tyler Duncan, $6,800: We’ll go with a tested veteran in Duncan to close things out. The 33-year-old is accurate off the tee and usually sharp with the irons, and he has a pair of third-place finishes over the past six weeks at the Honda and Corales Puntacana Championship. He’s had some mixed results in Hilton Head, but he’s coming off his best career finish with a T-12 in 2022 and he made a run at the course record with an 8-under 63 in 2020. The nice thing about the cheaper guys this week is that they weren’t grinding away in the rain all weekend at Augusta and will be fresher than their more accomplished peers. As far as course fit and recent form goes, Duncan checks a lot of boxes at a good price.
