The traveling circus that is LIV golf heads to the Midwest this week for another 54-hole, no-cut tournament at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois, roughly 50 miles outside Chicago.

Dustin Johnson was victorious in a playoff the last time around in Boston, securing his first win on any tour in 19 months. It’s not surprising to see him as the golf betting favorite once again with +550 odds, while newly-acquired Cameron Smith is +650 on betting sites and betting apps for what will be his second LIV tournament.

Fellow newcomer Joaquin Niemann is third with golf odds of +700, while Talor Gooch rounds out the top four at +900. That’s a heavy-consensus top four, with Louis Oosthuizen the next player on the board at +1800.

LIV Golf Chicago Expert Picks & Predictions

Talor Gooch to Win

Odds: +900 at DraftKings

Gooch has been one of the most-heavily scrutinized LIV defectors considering he was among the first wave and still had plenty of future promise on the PGA Tour, unlike most of his LIV peers at the time. His name was brought up several times by current Tour players at last week’s BMW PGA Championship, where he finished just two strokes behind winner Shane Lowry.

That type of play under so much scrutiny in a relatively hostile work environment indicates Gooch can handle the heat and likes the chip-on-the-shoulder mentality. The good news is he has a much better chance of pulling off a victory this week against a smaller, weaker field.

We’re on Gooch to win this week with +900 odds at DraftKings.

LIV Golf Chicago Betting Tips

It’s increasingly difficult to handicap these LIV events considering we can’t find any statistics. Not even fairways or greens hit in regulation, let alone comprehensive Strokes Gained stats. One assumes LIV has to be tracking these in some capacity but we cannot find them anywhere for public consumption.

Keeping tabs on who’s playing consistently well and current strengths/weaknesses will only get more challenging as the LIV experiment rolls on and past Tour stats become irrelevant. Perhaps that creates more value for diehard LIV enthusiasts who watch every shot on YouTube. All six of them. For everyone else, this remains a crapshoot. And it’s why we’ve leaned heavily on intangibles such as this week with Gooch.

Rich Harvest Farms is a private course in the far west Chicago suburbs, and it’s played very difficult in recent amateur events like the 2017 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Championships. It’s long and tricky and demanding in every sense, which is why there’s such a discrepancy on the odds board between the top four and the rest of the field. While we been taking shots further down the board in recent events, this is a good week to back the favorites.
