Rocket Mortgage Classic Odds, Betting Tips & Expert Picks

The PGA Tour heads to Detroit Golf Club for the Rocket Mortgage Classic this week. Bryson DeChambeau enters as the defending champion after shooting a massive 23-under par in 2020. Golf betting fans may recall last year’s edition as the coming-out party for DeChambeau and his buffed-up physique following the COVID-19 shutdown of the PGA Tour.

The course received several inches of rain over the last two weeks, which should keep putting fair. That, coupled with the unusually wide fairways, make this a go-for-it weekend with scores likely to finish south of -20 yet again.

DeChambeau is the betting favorite at sports betting sites this week at +750. Patrick Reed, who finished in the top 20 of all three majors so far, is at +1100 as he seeks Win No. 2 on the season. Nobody else is closer than +1800 – Hideki Matsuyama and Webb Simpson sit at that mark, with Joaquin Niemann (+2000) close behind.

Rocket Mortgage Classic Picks & Betting Tips

Patrick Reed Top-10 Finish

The Odds: +150 at BetMGM

The hot-button Reed hasn’t made many headlines lately, but he remains elite. Reed hasn’t won on tour since January, but he’s finished in the top 25 in seven of the last nine events. More relevant for this spot, he has six top-10s including in three of the last seven events.

With scoring opportunities galore, literally nobody is better at nailing birdie putts than Reed. He ranks No. 1 on the PGA Tour in that regard. With his top 12 ranking on par 4’s and a tee-to-green mark that ranks high, Reed can again be near the front – if not win the whole thing.

Rocket Mortgage Classic Betting Tips

Birdie chances will come in piles for those who can get the ball to the green cleanly. From there, fair greens should lead to low scores for those who have the fortitude to hit their share of mid-length putts. When it comes to hitting birdie putts, that’s a big reason to like Reed. But he’s not the only one in the field with the clutch putt gene. Others ranked in the top 15 in that critical component include DeChambeau, Max Homa, Cam Davis and Anirban Lahiri. Some of those guys can be backed at very high odds, even for top-20 finishes.

Big hitters have an advantage here due to the wide fairways. Obviously, that is a massive advantage for DeChambeau – the favorite for a reason. Will Zalatoris ranks ninth in Strokes Gained: Tee to Green, the only other player in the field ranking in the top 15 in that important category.

We’re looking at the golf odds at sportsbooks and on betting apps on players with birdie putting percentage and scoring on par 4’s and par 5’s. The previous two Rocket Mortgage Classic champions ranked No. 1 their title weekends in Par 4 scoring, were top three in Putting: Birdie or Better Percentage and Strokes Gained: Putting.
