The PGA Tour begins its new season this week following an excruciating two-day wait after Dustin Johnson capped the 2019-20 installment with a Tour Championship victory.
Now golf betting begins anew at the Safeway Open in Napa, California. The field isn’t great, but it does include some heavy hitters near the top of the betting board.

Phil Mickelson (-122) over Jordan Spieth
What do Adam Hadwin, Rasmus Hojgaard, Shugo Imahira and Jazz Janewattananond have in common? They’re all ahead of Spieth in the Official World Golf Rankings. Spieth has fallen all the way to No. 67 in the three years since his last win at the 2017 British Open. He begins the new season where he left off — searching for answers and fairways. Mickelson has a great history here and just picked up a confidence-booster with his senior tour win. We think he waxes Spieth in this matchup. Grab Lefty at FanDuel this week.

Tournament Decided by Playoff (+400)
Dustin Johnson isn’t showing up to win this thing by six strokes. This is a weaker field with little separation among the top contenders. Even in years with stronger fields, the Safeway Open has been decided by one stroke in four of the last five years. This event has gone to a playoff in two of the past five years, with Kevin Tway topping Ryan Moore in 2018 and Emiliano Grillo besting Kevin Na in 2015. We’ll take our chances at another playoff with +400 odds and you can too at Unibet.

Chez Reavie (+100) over Emiliano Grillo
Reavie is a great fit for this course, which features narrower fairways than most and a need for precise iron play. Reavie finished last season seventh in driving accuracy and he’s also very consistent at this track — he has finished T-33 or better in each of his last five starts here. Grillo is a past winner, but he missed the cut last season and hasn’t finished in the top 25 since his 2015 victory. Reavie gets it done in this matchup, with underdog odds as an added bonus. Bet on Reavie at William Hill.
Tyler Duncan (+138) over Si Woo Kim
Another underdog with value this week. Kim is the betting favorite for a reason and has been extremely dialed in with the irons lately. But he has made two forgettable starts in Napa, missing the cut in 2016 and finishing T-49 last year. Duncan was T-5 here in 2018 and checks all the boxes — very accurate off the tee and in decent form with nine made cuts in his past 10 starts. We’ll roll the dice with Duncan against the favorite this week and if you agree, wager on Duncan at DraftKings.

Brandt Snedeker (-115) over Keegan Bradley
Snedeker struggled quite a bit down the stretch and was bounced from the FedEx Cup Playoffs after the first event. But the Safeway has always been a friendly stop for him. His past three starts here have gone T-17, T-2 and T-17. Bradley missed the cut here in 2018. He has been more consistent than Snedeker of late, but we’re leaning to course history for this matchup. Ride Snedeker at FanDuel.
