“WrestleMania Goes Hollywood” is a tagline being used to build anticipation ahead of WrestleMania 39, a two-day extravaganza set for Saturday and Sunday at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

Roman Reigns faces Cody Rhodes for the WWE Universal championship, with Brock Lesnar, Seth Rollins, John Cena, Edge and Rey Mysterio among the superstars expected to compete in matches.

But pro wrestling’s biggest annual event is also a time to showcase the superstars of the past – the weekend includes the annual WWE Hall of Fame ceremony. All the legends come to town for WrestleMania, and whether it’s for a storyline or a simple “hello!” WWE is likely to get a few of them on-screen as a surprise to loyal and long-term fans.

Which legends will we see on-screen this weekend? Bookies.com oddsmaker Adam Thompson breaks down the favorites to make a WrestleMania 39 surprise spot.

The two-day mega-event is in LA. And the best example of “WrestleMania Going Hollywood” is obviously The Rock, who's enjoyed massive success in both worlds.

The Rock was the biggest star in WWE when he began his Hollywood career. Dwayne Johnson then became the biggest action star in the movie business. He’s still a superstar in film but could also use the WrestleMania marketing bump to promote the XFL, his rebooted football league in the midst of its first season. With old rival John Cena slated to compete, there’s an opportunity for a Rock run-in, and the chance to push the XFL is an added bonus for Johnson, who part owns the league.

Many believed The Rock would wrestle Roman Reigns, but Johnson said his busy schedule didn’t offer him the chance to get into wrestling shape. That doesn’t mean he won’t show up, perhaps to mess with Reigns.

Randy Orton is a wrestler on the active WWE roster, but one we haven’t seen much of since he suffered an injury nearly one year ago (May 2022). WrestleMania is the spot where old storylines wrap up and new ones emerge. If Orton is even close to ready, expect him to pop up somewhere.

Social media star-turned-WWE wrestler Logan Paul will compete at WrestleMania for the second time; last year he stole the show with acrobatics and in-ring moves that impressed. His brother, social media star-turned-boxer and soon-to-be pro MMA fighter Jake Paul, has yet to step into the squared circle. But brother Logan calls the move “inevitable.”

What better spot to announce your involvement than an appearance at WrestleMania? Logan Paul faces Seth Rollins, a marquee matchup that could very well end with a surprise appearance from Jake. If I’m a WWE writer (and I’m not), he helps Seth.

Stone Cold Steve Austin took part in his first match in 19 years at WrestleMania 38. It was so well-received that since then, Austin, 59, has been offered several other match opportunities for the event by WWE, including showdowns against Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns. That won’t happen here (Lesnar and Reigns have opponents now), but with the money being thrown about and WWE’s strong interest to get Stone Cold back in the fold, the Rattlesnake could show up this weekend in L.A.

How could WWE hold a WrestleMania in Hollywood without “Hollywood” Hulk Hogan? There hasn’t been much buzz or speculation about an appearance from the most influential wrestler in the company’s history, but the Hollywood angle plays.

Legend Ric Flair had his final, final match in July but he’s not gone yet. His daughter Charlotte Flair is competing on the card, defending the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Rhea Ripley. Flair, 74, hasn’t had much buzz recently, though he offered his support to The Rock and Austin.

The Undertaker will be at WrestleMania weekend, but mainly for a one-man show in which he talks about his decades in the industry; he vowed three years ago never to fully compete in a match again. But there is a tie-in to the Dead Man and one of the WrestleMania matches: The Hell in a Cell showdown between Edge and Finn Balor. Edge has brought back his “Brood vibes,” a darker version of himself that harks back to when he was part of a collection of gothic-like wrestlers called The Brood in the late 1990s.

The Brood joined a group led by the Undertaker at which time Edge was “baptized” into the Ministry of Darkness. We bring it up because Edge recently brought it up – perhaps a foreshadowing of events in L.A.

Gangrel, the leader of the group, is reportedly expected at WrestleMania for the weekend, and we might see him, too.

Vince McMahon is expected to be backstage at WrestleMania, the event he created nearly four decades ago. McMahon, 77, is reportedly in the process of trying to sell WWE. He has no real ties to any storyline, but if this is the owner’s final WrestleMania, it would seem fitting he make an appearance on the final night.
