While the NFL world has been watching the pyjama testing at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis this weekend, it is free agency that is quickly coming into focus.

NFL teams can officially start speaking with unrestricted free agents from March 13, with the announcement of deals not allowed until 16:00 ET on March 15. As always, there are some big-name players available and teams that think they are one player away from Super Bowl convention to catch up with the Kansas City Chiefs.

A strong free agency can shoot teams up in the odds on NFL betting sites, while some sportsbooks will push teams who lose a lot of talent and stand pat in the early days of free agency.

Here are the five players who will be unrestricted free agents who we think could make the biggest impact on a team.

Jakobi Meyers

Unlike most years, there appears to be no sure-fire No. 1 wideout to pick in free agency, which should impact the earning potential of any of these players. However, the most consistently productive player at the position in the last couple of years has been Jakobi Meyers.

His lack of speed usually means he’s not much of a downfield threat, but he has great route-running abilities and has finally turned that into touchdowns. In the last two seasons, he has had a combined 150 catches for 1,670 yards and eight touchdowns with the New England Patriots. He has spent his whole career with the Pats so could run it back with them. Outside of that, the Indianapolis Colts figure to be in a market for more of a slot receiver if Parris Campbell walks.

The Baltimore Ravens have been negligent at best in building a receiving core for Lamar Jackson, perhaps they will start doing the right thing this year. Such a move for the Ravens would make them popular NFL picks for the playoffs.

JuJu Smith-Schuster

There was a time when Smith-Schuster was seen as a No. 1 wide receiver. After producing over 2,000 receiving yards and 14 touchdown catches in his first two seasons in the league it would have been unthinkable that he wouldn’t have spent his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, he struggled before ultimately being released after the 2021 season, and Smith-Schuster did his best to rehabilitate his reputation on the best offense in the league.

With Patrick Mahomes throwing to him, he had 78 receptions, 933 yards and a Super Bowl ring to show for the season. You wonder if Smith-Schuster will be chasing money more than glory after getting his ring in February. A team like the Atlanta Falcons has virtually no weapons and a ton of cap space to throw at someone who should be entering their prime at 26.

Allen Lazard

Lazard was an undrafted free agent of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2018, but he has called the Green Bay Packers his home since and steadily risen to become a reliable target for Aaron Rodgers. In the last four seasons, he has 2,229 yards and 20 touchdowns with his contract year last season the best yet. He had 60 receptions for 788 yards and six touchdowns for a most dysfunctional Packers team that never looked like fulfilling preseason Super Bowl expectations at NFL betting apps. If Meyers and Nelson Agholor find new homes this offseason, Lazard would seem a good landing spot for the Patriots. Another dark-horse team to watch out for in free agency would be the Tennessee Titans, whose offense seemed to stagnate last year.

Darius Slayton

With US betting apps sure to be pricing up some of the hottest free-agent names on the market such as New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones in the coming days, the Giants’ prices of success with USA sports betting sites could depend on keeping their lone deep threat for Jones. Jones is almost certainly going to get the franchise tag, which would leave them open to keep Slayton in play.

For his career, he has averaged 15 yards per catch and can take the top off a defense. After reaching the playoffs for the first time since 2016, the Giants are likely to do everything they can to keep Jones, Slayton and Saquon Barkely together, no matter how expensive it gets. If Slayton is the odd one out, though, he could be a great deep-threat for teams in need with the Packers and Las Vegas Raiders sure to be among them.

Odell Beckham Jr.

If this list was made five years ago, Beckham would be in line to break records and become the highest-paid wide receiver in history. As it is, Beckham is 30 and missed the whole of the 2022 season after coming off a torn ACL suffered in the Super Bowl in February 2022 as he helped the Los Angeles Rams beat the Cincinnati Bengals. He hasn’t played a full season since 2019 but went on something of a free-agent tour towards the end of the 2022 season and was linked with the likes of the Dallas Cowboys only to not sign.

It’s likely he would only choose to sign with a contender at this stage, so taking a look at the odds of Super Bowl success on betting apps and finding teams who could use his experience might be the best way to predict which team he might sign for.
