Arsenal under Mikel Arteta have turned themselves into contenders for trophies in the last three years without managing to get their hands on silverware. The last three seasons, they have run Manchester City and Liverpool close in the Premier League but ultimately finished second in each of those seasons.

The Gunners also got to the semi-finals of the Champions League last season but weren’t much of a danger in the Carabao Cup or FA Cup. They took full advantage of another opportunity to pile the pressure on Manchester City Saturday when they comfortably beat Fulham at home 3-0 to go six points clear at the top of the table, even if City have two games in hand. One of them is Sunday away to Everton Monday night.

Quadruple Challenge Ends Early

Arsenal were among the favourites for each of the four trophies they had available this year, if the odds at most new betting sites were to be believed. However, as has been the case with every team that has legitimately challenged for the quadruple, they have failed to win all four possible trophies.

A 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final in March put paid to their chances of any historic haul being paraded around North London. The treble can come in a number of ways at the start of the season, and with the Gunners strengthening the spine of their team, they were hoping to compete on multiple fronts. Given how closely Arsenal pushed City and Liverpool over the last few seasons, another Premier League push is sure to be expected.
