1:30pm (Triumph Hurdle) - Lossiemouth

A race hugely lacking depth in the new age of a four day diluted Cheltenham Festival is the Triumph Hurdle. It can go this year to Lossiemouth who was hugely unlucky at Leopardstown last month but should be able to reverse that form with Gala Marceau here. Blood Destiny is popular but has truly tackled very little on route here with bloodless wins so far. The hardened Lossiemouth does look the right market leader and priced fairly to score.

Back Lossiemouth at 6/4 with the leading Cheltenham Festival Bookmakers.

2:10pm (County Hurdle) - Petit Tonnerre

Hunters Yarn could well be a Supreme horse in the County Hurdle and that kind of planning usually means they go close. The price is skinny given the minefield of a race he will face and the likes of Pembroke, Sharjah, Filey Bay and co make it look one of the toughest contests on  racetrack this season.

There are two at huge prices worth considering with many bookmakers offering massive place concessions. Petit Tonnerre was a touch disappointing for Jonjo O'Neill at Ascot last time but crucial jumping errors crept in and just didn't kick on at the business end when still very much in the mix. A strong run race over a shorter trip with plenty of cover is going to be perfect for him. The yard doesn't have many for the meeting but they do run well as they have this week when aimed here. Expect the mark of 140 is still very workable with conditions ideal.

Also don't ignore Wonderwall who has been very sparingly raced, has what could be a gift of a current hurdles mark and seems to have been now accidently suitable for this after some stop start campaigning for a while. After all, in such a difficult race, he could be the one to save you.

Back Petit Tonnerre at 33/1 with the leading Cheltenham Festival Bookmakers.

2:50pm (Albert Bartlett Hurdle) - Three Card Brag

A concern before the week that the stamina assured and classy Three Card Brag wouldn't get the required soft ground to line up here, but with a wet week things have certainly come good for connections and the 6yo looks very much the one they all have to beat today.

Corbetts Cross is a fair horse, changed hands recently to JP McManus and must surely go well but Three Card Brag is only now being sent over a proper trip, has already shown huge ability over shorter in very good races and can improve no end this afternoon. Keep an eye on Seabank Bistro who booked his place here in good style last time out and was a big player in the bumper at the Festival last season.

Back Three Card Brag at 5/1 with the leading Cheltenham Festival Bookmakers.

3:30pm (Gold Cup) - Bravemansgame

Arguably only three horses can win this years Gold Cup.

Galopin Des Champs, exciting 7yo on the improve, kicked all comers out of the way and tackles the big race on a high with only slight stamina concerns to dispel. Jumps well, races calmly and is tractable and will be hard to beat if getting a safe passage.

A Plus Tard, last years winner in devastating style. Yard now going very well and has an interrupted and less than ideal preparation to overcome but the win last year is the best piece of form you will find and the manner of it hard to erase from memory.

Bravemansgame, a King George winner, the best jumper in the field, perfectly prepared for a race his trainer loves to win and knows what is required. Arguably Cheltenham doubts to disprove but with the evidence we have it is a slight doubt only.

Based on the pussy cat like jumping style of Bravemansgame, the manner of his impressive King George win, a race that did not pan out ideally, and the current prices the value lies with Nicholls and Cobden here.

Protektorat, Stattler and Royale Pagaille are now over priced with the layers to pick up pieces, but it will need some flops up top for them to win.

Back Bravemansgame at 7/1 with the leading Cheltenham Festival Bookmakers.

4:10pm (Foxhunter) - Billaway

Token suggestion with last years winner Billaway who was fortunate to score then but will benefit from the patience of Patrick Mullins once more no doubt in what is usually a fierce run race. Has a verdict over the favourite in April and still commands huge respect at this level despite now very much a senior in the ranks.

Back Billaway at 7/1 with the leading Cheltenham Festival Bookmakers.

4:50pm (Mares' Chase) - Impervious

Impervious did very well to be sixth at the Festival last year with almost all things going wrong in the race. Has been a revelation over fences and brings the best form in the race to the table for the Mares' Chase this year. Jumps quick, low and bravely, gets on great with Brian Hayes and must take a lot of beating here.

Allegorie De Vassy is a danger, low on experience, often given uncompetitive assignments so very hard to judge, could be clear of them but I suspect will find it tough when asked to battle for the first proper time in this company. There are some big prices about good mares in the race and the quality of the contest has improved plenty. Riviere D'etel, Magic Daze, Jeremy's Flame and Elimay of course, this is a good race.

Back Impervious at 7/4 with the leading Cheltenham Festival Bookmakers.

5:30pm (Martin Pipe Conditional Hurdle) - Spirit Of Legend

Not easy to sift through the finale and land on any selection confidently. Spirit Of Legend was given a scary handicap rise by the UK handicapper for basically having a look around Fairyhouse last month. That run in 6th was purely to get the wheels back on after a nasty mishap taking away what looked like victory at Navan in January. Arguably the handicapper is spot on, this horse was very very well treated. A 7lb rise might not stop them going very close here.

Might I has a big wieght but probably deserves it, Spanish Harlem and Cool Survivor obvioulsy well fancied too. Spirit Of Legend can make a good go of it however and is a big price to figure.

Back Spirit Of Legend at 25/1 with the leading Cheltenham Festival Bookmakers.
