Saturday night will see two titles defended at UFC 292 from TD Garden in Boston. Bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling puts his title on the line against “Sugar” Sean O’Malley. In the co-main-event, Women’s Strawweight champion Zhang Weili defends against Amanda Lemos.

UFC 292: Sterling vs. O’Malley

Aljamain Sterling is THE dominant force in the UFC Bantamweight division and has been for some time now. Since winning the title at UFC 259 against Petr Yan, he’s defended it against Yan, TJ Dillashaw and a returning Henry Cejudo, breaking the record for consecutive Bantamweight title defences in the process. 

To extend that record, he’ll need to get past “Sugar” Sean O’Malley. O’Malley could have the better of Sterling on the feet, as he has a height and reach advantage and a higher significant strikes rate than the champion. On Saturday, he’ll be out to prove that he’s not just one of the most popular fighters in the UFC, but also one of the best.

UFC 292 Undercard Preview

Elsewhere on the UFC 292 card, the Women’s Strawweight title will be on the line when Zhang Weili faces off with Amanda Lemos in the co-main-event. UFC mainstays Chris Weidman, Marlon Vera, Pedro Munhoz and Neil Magny will all be in action.

Early prelims are due to start at 11:30pm UK time, with the later prelims scheduled for 1am. The UFC 292 main card gets under way at 3am.

The main event on Saturday is a fascinating matchup, featuring a real clash of styles. O’Malley seems to have the advantage in the stand-up game, but Sterling should have his measure if he gets the fight to the ground. Expect Sterling to do all he can to get it to the mat. Since Zhang Weili’s MMA debut, the only person she’s lost to is Rose Namajunas. She should have far too much for Amanda Lemos to handle. The same is true in the Ian Garry vs. Neil Magny fight on the undercard. Garry is the biggest favourite of the night, and it would be a massive shock if he were to lose.
