The battle for the West goes through Arizona State. That’s what oddsmakers have indicated on the early Pac-12 conference championship futures betting board, where the Sun Devils are favored to take the title with +230 odds. UCLA is right behind them at +295. That’s a change of pace with Oregon, Washington and Arizona having traded titles for the past seven seasons.

The Ducks have the third-shortest odds in conference at +315, followed by Stanford at +500. Those are the four main preseason contenders, but there’s not much separation. And there isn’t one or two dominant teams, just a number of squads that can compete on a given night and make for another unpredictable year in the Pac-12, presenting some value to fans of college basketball betting.

Pac-12 Basketball Betting Favorites

Arizona State

The Sun Devils were in line for a third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance under Coach Bobby Hurley before March Madness was canceled. Now they’re back and looking to build on solid program momentum.

It all starts with Remy Martin, who decided to return for his senior season after averaging 19.1 points and four assists as a junior. He’s got help with freshman Joshua Christopher — a five-star recruit who’s already averaging 17.5 points and 4.3 rebounds a night. The Sun Devils need to defend better than they have in the early going, but Martin and Christopher comprise one of the best offensive duos in the country and will keep Arizona State in the hunt all season.

UCLA

The Bruins narrowly missed out on a Pac-12 title last season, finishing one game behind Oregon. They return all five starters and expect an even stronger push for their first conference title since 2013.

Kentucky transfer Johnny Juzang scored 10 points in his debut after missing the first five games of the season and adds depth to what is already a strong, experienced roster. Like most Pac-12 contenders, UCLA pushes the pace and wins with offense. They have more than enough talent on the roster to finish on top and end the eight-year title drought.

Oregon

The Ducks have been the class of the conference with three championships in the past five seasons under Coach Dana Altman. They added a few key transfers over the offseason, none better thus far than former Rutgers forward Eugene Omoruyi. He’s already making up for the loss of 2020 Pac-12 Player of the Year Payton Pritchard with 21 points and five rebounds per game.

Oregon is without junior guard Will Richardson for at least the first six weeks of the season due to injury. They can manage without him in the early going, and if you like the Ducks it might be wise to bet them before he returns as this team should be even better come March.

Stanford

Coach Jerod Haase enters his fifth season with a Cardinal program searching for its first conference title since 2004. He’s had Stanford on the rise of late, and the team went 20-12 a year ago, which would have led to the first NCAA Tournament bid since 2014.

Stanford went through some early growing pains with back-to-back losses against North Carolina and Indiana, struggling on the offensive end. But there’s plenty of experience with senior forward Oscar da Silva averaging 17.3 points and five rebounds. Senior guard Daejon Davis has also taken a big step with 14.5 points per night.

This is a well-coached squad with senior leadership, as the Cardinal gear up for another serious run.

Other Teams to Consider

USC: The Trojans are coming off a third-place finish at 11-7 in conference play, but this is a new-look team with transfers and 7-foot freshman Evan Mobley, a five-star recruit ranked the No. 1 center in the country. He’s already putting this team on his back with 17.6 points and nine rebounds and makes USC a serious threat.

Arizona: The Wildcats lost a bulk of their scoring from last year but add Georgetown transfer James Akinjo, a former Big East Freshman of the Year. Seattle University graduate transfer Terrell Brown has been even better, averaging 14.5 points in the early going.
