Given the well-lubricated environment in Jacksonville, Fla., World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party is a fitting nickname for the Georgia-Florida game. But given recent history, another moniker for this interstate showdown may be apt: Where Bulldog Dreams Go to Die.

Because the Gators have scuttled Georgia seasons many times before. Between Steve Spurrier’s arrival in Gainesville in 1990 and last year’s upset of No. 5 Georgia, Florida leads this series by an overwhelming mark of 22-9. Now, they’ll aim for one of the biggest wins in the history of the rivalry as two-touchdown underdogs to the top-ranked Bulldogs.

Something to consider, though: According to Sports Reference, Georgia has won 12 of the 15 games when only the Bulldogs are ranked, which is the case this season. The last time the Bulldogs were this good and the Gators unranked, in 2017, Georgia won 42-7. Even so, expect a lot of college football betting interest in this game given the marquee stature of both programs.

Odds are current as of publication. Betting sites may indicate odds changes closer to kickoff.

Georgia vs Florida Key Matchups

Florida’s run game vs. Georgia’s defense: Here’s your ballgame. The Gators rank fourth nationally in rushing yards per game (245.3), while Georgia is No. 2 nationally in rushing defense (allowing 63.4 yards per game).

Emory Jones vs. Georgia’s pass rush: The Bulldogs lead the SEC with 24 sacks. But they face a very mobile Gators quarterback in Jones, who has nearly 500 rushing yards on the season.

Florida’s defense vs. inconsistency: While Florida has some good defensive games, the entire unit checked out in allowing 454 yards to LSU two weeks ago. The Gators play like that again, they’ll get blown out.

5 Key Georgia vs Florida Stats

46: The number of total points Georgia has allowed this season, its best mark through seven games since 1971.

49: The number of points Florida allowed in its most recent game, a loss two weeks ago to LSU.

3-1: Georgia coach Kirby Smart’s head-to-head record against Florida coach Dan Mullen, with the lone loss coming last season.

11-5: Record against the spread in neutral-site games of Smart, who became Georgia’s coach prior to the 2016 season.

3-5: Record against the spread in neutral-site games of Mullen, who became Florida’s coach prior to the 2018 season.

Georgia vs Florida Weather Forecast

Forecasts early in the week call for a great Saturday for football: Highs in the upper 60s around the 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff, relatively low humidity and zero chance of rain. A rainy cold front is slated to move through the area a few days prior, worth keeping an eye on among those making college football picks.

Georgia vs Florida Moneyline

Georgia is a -700 favorite, according to sportsbooks, while Florida is a +470 underdog. The Bulldogs are a pair of backdoor covers - one by South Carolina and the other by Kentucky - from being unbeaten against the spread this season, and regardless are perfect against lines of 17.5 points or less.

The Gators have been all over the place, pushing Alabama to the wire before losing as favorites to LSU and Kentucky. As far as the moneyline goes, pass on these college football odds unless you have an alligator tattooed on your chest.

Georgia vs Florida Point Spread

Georgia is a 13.5-point favorite, according to betting sites. Since the 10-3 grinder on opening weekend against Clemson, the closest any opponent has come to the Bulldogs is 17 points, that by Kentucky, which scored with a second left to make that game seem closer than it really was (those same Wildcats beat the Gators 20-13, by the way).

Georgia’s defense remains the most reliable and consistent unit in college football, and anytime you can get the silver britches for fewer than two touchdowns, you take it. Grab the Bulldogs -13.5 and don’t look back. You can make the bet at DraftKings.

Georgia vs Florida Totals

The total for this game is 50.5, according to betting apps. Have we mentioned how much we like the Georgia defense? The Bulldogs have gone under in three straight, and haven’t allowed an opponent more than 13 points in a single game.

Florida has also gone under in three of its last four, the exception being that no-defense points bonanza against LSU. While the Gators won the Cocktail Party 44-28 last season, the teams are very different now. Florida is beat up, Georgia has shown it can stop anybody, and the under seems like the natural bet. You can get Under 51 (-110) at BetMGM.
