NFL Week 5 Best Bets: SoFi Shines In Prime Time
A pair of national TV games at SoFi Stadium highlight our NFL Week 5 Best Bets.
This is the first week on the NFL odds schedule with teams on the bye. The byes will continue each week until Thanksgiving,
The San Francisco 49ers may see the return of Brock Purdy when they trek down the Pacific Coast Highway to visit the LA Rams at SoFi Stadium Thursday night.
This sets up as the best Thursday night offering of the season since the opener between the Eagles and Cowboys.
Some of the matchups this week on the best sports betting sites failed to meet the hype that Park Avenue envisioned last May. Before the season, Sunday’s 4:25 p.m. FOX game between the Lions and Bengals was ticketed for the nationwide slot. However, the Bengals have been neutered by Joe Burrow’s injury. The Commanders-Chargers game in LA moves into the Tom Brady 4:25 p.m. FOX slot.
NFL Continues European Swing In London
The NFL continues its European swing Sunday morning. The Minnesota Vikings play the second game of their Ireland-UK back-to-back doubleheader this week against the Cleveland Browns at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. The Vikings and Steelers played in Dublin in Week 4.
Sunday Night Football makes a rare visit to Jacksonville. All eyes will be on the visiting team’s luxury box as the Kansas City Chiefs face the Jaguars. Taylor Swift would be the biggest thing to hit Jacksonville since the Waffel House drive-thru.
Just six games occupy the 1 p.m. spot on Sunday. CBS has a slim menu from which to choose for Jim Nantz and Tony Romo’s landing spot. Look for the network’s top duo to be on the call in Philly for the Eagles-Broncos game. Don't worry, Jim. The Masters is only six months awawy.
Four teams are on the bye this week: Atlanta, Chicago, Green Bay and Pittsburgh

NFL Week 5 Best Bets: Game-By-Game Breakdown
Thursday, October 2
San Francisco 49ers at Los Angeles Rams, 8:15 p.m. (Amazon Prime)
Buzz: The LA Rams and San Francisco 49ers stand poised to take the NFC West race down to Week 17. The winner here grabs the early edge. The 49ers remain dogged by critical injuries this season – DE Joey Bosa is lost for the year and QB Brock Purdy rode the bench in back-to-back wins in Weeks 2 and 3. The kick-six loss to Philly may haunt the Rams for a generation.
Pick: 49ers +3 (-110) DraftKings via OddsJam
Sunday, October 5
Minnesota Vikings vs. Cleveland Browns, 9:30 a.m. (NFL Network)
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London
Buzz: The NFL 2025 European Tour moves from Dublin, Ireland, to London this week. The Minnesota Vikings come along for the ride. The Vikings played Pittsburgh in Ireland in Week 4. The Browns defense keeps this display of Ugly American Football close enough to take the points.
Pick: Browns +4.5 (-110) DraftKings via OddsJam
Las Vegas Raiders at Indianapolis Colts, 1 p.m. (FOX)
Buzz: Raiders front seven loads up to limit Jonathan Taylor. But Indiana Jones comes through in the end as this season of sequels continues. And the Colts’ defense gets to flex.
Pick: Under 48.5 Points (-110) DraftKings via OddsJam
New York Giants at New Orleans Saints, 1 p.m. (CBS)
Buzz: A pair of rookie QBs have defaulted their way to the starting role these teams that were both winless heading into Week 4. The Giants swapped out Russell Wilson for Jaxson Dart. The Saints tossed Tyler Shough into the shredder against Buffalo in Week 4. The Giants bring a semblance of balance. That’s enough here.
Pick: Giants -2.5 (-110) DraftKings via OddsJam

Dallas Cowboys at New York Jets, 1 p.m. (FOX)
Buzz: Dysfunction meets despair at MetLife. The Cowboys dumped Micah Parsons earlier this season. The Jets threw all hope overboard decades ago. They have a min QB-controversy brewing. Justin Fields? Tyrod Taylor? Does it really matter when you haven’t won a Super Bowl since before the Moon Landing?
Pick: Cowboys ML (-115) DraftKings via OddsJam
Denver Broncos at Philadelphia Eagles, 1 p.m. (CBS)
Buzz: The Eagles rampaged through Weeks 1-3, toppling the Chiefs and Rams along the way. They get another playoff entrant from last season here at home. The Broncos come off a get-right game against Cincinnati at home in Week 4. Don’t be swayed by that one.
Pick: Eagles -5.5 (-105) DraftKings via OddsJam
Miami Dolphins at Carolina Panthers, 1 p.m. (FOX)
Buzz: Five weeks into the NFL season and we’ve reached the “Why Are They Playing This Game?” stage. The Dolphins swing by Chapel Hill after this one to pick up Bill Belichick.
Pick: Panthers -1.5 (-105) DraftKings via OddsJam
Houston Texans at Baltimore Ravens, 1 p.m. (CBS)
Buzz: We’ll know for certain just how far the Ravens and Texans have fallen this week. Baltimore stumbled out of the gate losing 2 of 3 to Buffalo and Detroit before facing Patrick Mahomes in Week 4. The Ravens defense betrayed them in both losses, giving up 79 points. The Texans dropped 3 straight to begin the season before a working-bye against Tennessee.
Pick: Ravens -9.5 (-110) DraftKings via OddsJam
Tennessee Titans at Arizona Cardinals, 4:05 p.m. (CBS)
Buzz: The Cardinals come off a Thursday night mini-bye and face perhaps the worst team in the NFL not from New Orleans. We’d expect a little more respect from odds makers for the Cardinals at home.
Pick: Cardinals -7.5 (-115) DraftKings via OddsJam
Tampa Bay at Seattle Seahawks, 4:05 p.m. (CBS)
Buzz: Back in the day of Brent, Phyllis, Irv, and Jimmy The Greek, these were the two newest NFL expansion franchises. The Buccaneers Pirate Ship sails into the hostile waters of Puget Sound and steals one on the road.
Pick: Buccaneers +1.5 (-110) DraftKings via OddsJam
Detroit Lions at Cincinnati Bengals, 4:05 p.m. (CBS)
Buzz: Two cats. One set of claws. Fur flies.
Pick: Lions -7.5 (-110) DraftKings via OddsJam
Washington Commanders at Los Angeles Chargers, 4:25 p.m. (FOX)
Buzz: The FOX national game offers a major test for Jayden Daniels and the otherwise aged Commanders (the league’s oldest team) at SoFi Stadium. The Chargers high-voltage defense wins the day in front of a maroon-clad crowd of displaced Commanders fans.
Pick: Chargers -2.5 (-118) DraftKings via OddsJam
New England Patriots at Buffalo Bills, 8:20 p.m. (NBC)
Buzz: The Peacock pulled a short straw with this Sunday night snoozer. The Bills continue a soft-as-pudding schedule stretch that also includes New Orleans, Atlanta, a bye, and Carolina ahead of another apocalyptic showdown with the Chiefs in Week 9. Somehow, the Patriots keep this just close enough for a last-minute backdoor cover.
Pick: Patriots +10 (-110) DraftKings via OddsJam
Monday, October 6
Kansas City Chiefs at Jacksonville Jaguars, 8:15 p.m. (ABC)
Buzz: The Chiefs began the season with a pair of losses. The only Taylor who showed up in their Week 3 win over the Giants at MetLife was Lawrence. The Jaguars remains one of the NFL’s most enigmatic teams. The Jaguars keep this one just close enough to crush football souls throughout Duval County.
Pick: Jaguars +3.5 (-112) DraftKings via OddsJam
