Two-time All-Star third baseman Alex Bregman is a free agent for the first time in his MLB career, and the slugger is expected to command a massive deal on the open market. A two-time World Series winner, Bregman has played his entire nine-year career thus far with the Houston Astros before finally hitting free agency at age 30.

There will be several teams vying for his services, and Bookies.com veteran MLB odds maker Adam Thompson has put together hypothetical betting odds for what MLB team will sign him.

Top Contenders For Alex Bregman In Free Agency 2025

As Alex Bregman enters free agency, here’s a look at the leading teams vying for the All-Star’s signature

The Houston Astros have been Bregman’s home for the past nine seasons, and he has seen plenty of success in Houston, winning two World Series championships. While Bregman will see what kind of money is waiting out there for him in free agency, don’t be surprised if he goes home. He has reportedly rejected a six-year, $156 million deal, as agent Scott Boras is looking for a deal closer to $200 million.

That opens the door to big spenders who also have a need at 3B, most notably the New York Yankees and New York Mets. The Yankees lost in the World Series to the LA Dodgers, and to get back to the big show, they will need to add some more bats to their lineup. The Mets inked Juan Soto to the biggest deal in MLB history, showcasing their drive to become immediate World Series contenders.

The Detroit Tigers made a surprising playoff run this season. They need offense to get over the hump, and Bregman would be a natural fit in the middle of the Tigers’ lineup. The Tigers have money to spend and Bregman would be a terrific addition to this young team. If there's any squad that may spend enough to compete with the New York teams and the incumbent Astros, it's Detroit.

The Toronto Blue Jays could use help in the infield. They missed the playoffs and GM Ross Atkins is on the hot seat. Signing a big name like Bregman would help the Blue Jays get back to the postseason, and potentially help Atkins save his job if Bregman helps the squad get back into the playoffs.

The Los Angeles Angels have a need at 3B and a penchant for over-spending, and the Seattle Mariners are also desperate to find offense. The AL West rivals should inquire about Bregman in the coming weeks.

Alec Bohm could be moved by the Philadelphia Phillies, creating an opening and an opportunity to upgrade as continue competing with the Mets and Braves in the NL East.
