It has been four years since the Detroit Tigers were even remotely relevant in the MLB playoffs landscape. They haven’t even won 40% of their games since 2016.

But there is a plan in place to change that. It starts on the mound and extends to a youthful batting order. Detroit fans will hope that this team can reach its potential earlier than scheduled. Here are MLB betting tips and 3 great prop bets for the 2021 Detroit Tigers.

Tigers World Series Odds (+10000, bet365)

Oddsmakers aren’t giving the Tigers much respect – nor should they. Detroit has been an afterthought in MLB odds for six seasons and 2021 isn’t expected to be much different, with a young roster and only a handful of holdovers (Miguel Cabrera the most notable).

That said, anything can happen. In 2003, the Florida Marlins were +7500 to be the World Series winner. In 1991, the Minnesota Twins opened the season +8000. Both teams emerged as champions. Just two seasons ago, the Nationals were over +6000 on July 1, but got hot over the final two months before shocking the Astros in the World Series.

There are a lot of hurdles to climb for the Tigers, including the Twins and White Sox in their own division, the Yankees and Astros for the pennant and a looming National League champion. Find the best odds for the Tigers at bet365 .

Tigers Odds To Win The AL (+6000, DraftKings)

At least the Tigers are not a consensus pick to have the highest odds of any American League squad to win the pennant. Depending on which sportsbook you check, the Orioles and Rangers are often higher; the Royals and Mariners are about equal. Still, there are few expectations surrounding the Tigers. The majority of the league’s 15 teams are at +900 or lower.

If one of the lower teams is worth considering, perhaps it’s the Tigers. Last season they owned the youngest pitching staff in the majors and the ninth-youngest batting order, skewed by the 37-year-old Cabrera. If any massive underdog can sneak up on the league, it could be these anonymous Tigers.

There are better bets to place on Detroit (see below). But if you’re inclined, secure the best odds for the AL pennant at DraftKings .

Tigers Odds To Win The AL Central (+6000, Unibet)

Detroit’s odds to win the division are interesting and it isn’t because they should be higher. It’s because they’re about the same as the Tigers’ American League pennant odds. Oddsmakers are essentially calling it even chances between Detroit winning the AL Central, or sneaking into the playoffs as a wild card and shocking the rest of the league.

To be sure, the AL Central is stacked. The White Sox (-121) and Twins (+125) lead the way in MLB futures betting for the division title, with Cleveland (+700) not far behind. The Royals (+4000) and Tigers are far behind.

Oddsmakers might be on to something. Perhaps a best-case scenario is a second-place finish in the division, wild card berth and upsets from there. Don’t unload the bankroll backing the Tigers on any team bet. Great odds can be had for the Central at Unibet.

3 Great Tigers Prop Bets To Back

Tigers – Under 69.5 Wins (-110, BetMGM)

The power potential is low and this lineup doesn’t tend to hit for average. The top guys in the order don’t really steal and the staff ace has a career 4.55 ERA. Even with a surprise here and there – and there is potential for a few of them – it appears Detroit is destined for 100 losses. Take the Under on the Tigers’ win total at BetMGM .

Casey Mize – AL Cy Young Award (+7000, FanDuel)

Mize debuted in MLB to much hype and fanfare 2020, only to go 0-3 with a 6.99 ERA. He struggled with his command but has sizzling plus-level stuff. Backing Mize is a big risk, but Jacob deGrom won the Cy Young with a 10-9 record on a losing Mets team, so it’s not unprecedented. Get the best odds for Mize for the Cy Young at FanDuel .

Casey Mize – AL Rookie Of The Year (+1400, PointsBet)

We’ll double down on Mize. With low expectations for the Tigers, Mize should be in the rotation all season. He has looked great in spring training and we shouldn’t discount how utterly dominant he was before his callup. Certainly, the pool of competition for the award is not as deep compared to the Cy Young. Take Mize for ROY honors at PointsBet.
