The Toronto Blue Jays signed Max Scherzer last year. He rewarded them by helping the Jays reach the World Series for the first time in 22 years as the right-handed pitcher played a significant role in the team's deep playoff run. After losing in Game 7 to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Jays signed Dylan Cease and Cody Ponce to replace Scherzer and Chris Bassitt in the rotation. But Bowden Francis went down with a season-ending injury, so the Jays’ starting depth is being tested. Money is not an issue for Toronto, so signing Scherzer for another season makes a lot of sense if they want to improve their depth for another World Series run. The San Diego Padres have had a very good team for several years, but they keep coming up short in trying to win a World Series. San Diego has a solid rotation and has a history of signing veterans during Spring Training to compete for jobs. However, Scherzer would undoubtedly be an improvement and an excellent signing. The Detroit Tigers were Scherzer’s home from 2010 to 2014. The Tigers are gunning for the World Series this year and they already brought back another franchise legend in Justin Verlander. A reunion with Scherzer for their rotation, along with Verlander and two-time Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal, could make them favorites to win the American League.
