As the 2023-24 college basketball season started, it was all but assumed that Bronny James – the eldest son of NBA megastar LeBron James – would spend one, obligatory season at USC, declare for the NBA Draft, and join his dad in some pro locale, wherever that may be.

That plan is now in full action after Bronny announced on May 29 that he would, indeed, be entering the 2024 NBA Draft.

Bookies.com veteran oddsmaker Adam Thompson has now updated his NBA futures odds as to where Bronny suits up for 2024-25.

For a while now, LeBron James has been open and honest about his desire to someday play alongside his son in the NBA.

It was always presumed Bronny at USC would be a one-season thing, before entering the 2024 NBA Draft. There was little coincidence that LeBron James owned a player option for the 2024-25 season. By forgoing the option, LeBron can become an unrestricted free agent – and join Bronny, with whichever team drafts his son.

Bronny did not have a very impactful freshman year at USC. With sky-high expectations, the Trojans finished 15-18 overall, 8-12 in the Pac-12, with a humbling 70-49 loss to Arizona to end their season.

Bronny started only six games, averaging 4.8 points on 36.6% shooting, 2.8 rebounds, and a nearly 1/1 assist-to-turnover ratio. USC coach Andy Enfield took a buyout to become the new coach at SMU.

The NBA Draft Combine in May turned around Bronny's potential draft fortunes. Prior to the weeklong event, Bronny was considered the No. 98 prospect according to ESPN. Now he's at No. 54 - high enough to warrant a second-round selection. (His official height also dropped from the 6-foot-4 he was listed at in college to just over 6-1)

Related: Who Is Most Likely to Play With LeBron James Next Season?

LeBron will be in his age 40 season when Bronny enters the NBA. Even in his advanced-for-NBA age, James averaged 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 8.3 assists per game. Most teams would do whatever it takes to add someone of LeBron's caliber – especially if money isn’t a sticking point.

It seemed like a formality LeBron would simply re-sign with the Lakers, either on a new deal or to play out his current one. But after a first-round flameout, perhaps the King is more open to the idea of a new home to wind down a Hall of Fame career.

The Lakers have reportedly told LeBron they'll consider drafting Bronny. The NBA Draft is June 26-27. LeBron has until June 29 to decide whether to exercise his player option.

If LeBron is serious about playing for peanuts to suit up with Bronny, salary cap issues won't be a concern for most teams. There are only teams with enough projected practical cap space to pay LeBron what he's earning right now ($52.5M): the Detroit Pistons and Philadelphia 76ers. The Utah Jazz, Oklahoma City Thunder, and San Antonio Spurs aren't far off.

Bronny himself has stated it was never his dream to play alongside his dad, just to play in the NBA. If we're being honest, however, expect politics and behind-the-scenes dealing to get some teams to move on. The James crew could pull an Eli Manning and flat-out refuse to play for certain teams, forcing them to shy away at the draft. According to NBA insider Shams Charania, Bronny had 10 workout invites but so far has only accepted the ones from the Lakers and Suns. Reports claim both workouts went pretty well.

Phoenix currently doesn't have a second-round pick.

That could get them to a more preferred destination such as either the L.A. team or Cleveland, where LeBron started his NBA career and is near his hometown of Akron.

The Dallas Mavericks have reportedly shown an interest in Bronny but only own the 58th overall pick. The Lakers would swoop him up before then.
