Devin Booker has accomplished plenty in six NBA seasons. The 13th pick was All-Rookie in 2016, an All-Star the past two seasons, and in 2021 led his team in scoring on their way to an NBA Finals berth. What does the 24-year-old have in store after coming up just short of a championship?

MVP candidacy could certainly be in the young star’s future — and NBA betting markets at the top sportsbooks are taking notice. And with Arizona sports betting on the way, potentially in time for the start of the 2021-22 NBA season, it’s something to consider for native Suns fans who weren’t able to back Booker’s success at sports betting sites this season.

DraftKings sportsbook has already posted 2021-22 NBA MVP odds, and Booker finds himself with the ninth-best NBA odds to bring home the award at +1800 . The six-year pro finds himself in a class of All-Stars, future Hall of Famers, and NBA champions.

In fact, seven of the eight players in front of him (Luka Doncic, Kevin Durant, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Steph Curry, LeBron James, Damian Lillard, and Nikola Jokic) have been named First Team All-NBA within the last four years, and the other (Joel Embiid) was named Second Team All-NBA in that span.

Booker hasn’t been named to an All-NBA team in his career, but that’s likely the next accolade he’ll rack up. He averaged 25.6 points for the 51-win Suns and exploded in the postseason, averaging 27.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.8 assists for the Suns, who came within two wins of their first NBA championship. Booker, who some have compared to Kobe Bryant, scored 40-plus points four different times and took over a number of different games during Phoenix’s run.

The list of All-Star-to-MVP transitions bodes well for Booker, who failed to make an All-Star team in his first four seasons but made it the last two seasons. The last two MVP winners (Jokic in 2021, Antetokounmpo in 2019 and 2020) won the award the season after their second All-Star berths. That would put Booker on the same track as those two winners. Both Jokic and Antetokounmpo won the last two MVPs at 25 years old; Booker will turn 25 in October.

Booker’s Main Rivals For MVP Honors

In such a star-driven league, Booker will have serious competition to earn MVP honors. Heading into the offseason, here’s a quick glance at the eight players with better NBA MVP odds than the Suns’ sharpshooter on the NBA futures market.

Luka Doncic: +400 at DraftKings

Arguably the most talented player in the NBA, he has posted historically great statistical seasons in his first three years, matched only by LeBron James. He's the favorite on most betting apps.

Joel Embiid: +700 at DraftKings

A late-season injury cost Embiid a shot at the MVP last season, but he’ll be at the forefront of the discussion in 2022 if he can remain healthy — and if Philly upgrades from Ben Simmons.

Kevin Durant: +700 at DraftKings

Durant was the best comeback story in the NBA last season and showed no signs of slowing down at age 32 — but durability remains a concern as he played just 35 games.

Giannis Antetokounmpo: +800 at DraftKings

The reigning Finals MVP couldn’t three-peat as regular-season MVP but he had the numbers to do so. If voter fatigue has worn off, Giannis will again be in the mix.

Stephen Curry: +800 at DraftKings

Curry posted MVP-level numbers in 2021 but the Warriors missed the postseason. That won’t be the case in 2022, meaning Curry will be in contention for this award once again.

LeBron James: +1100 at DraftKings

It’s LeBron. As long as he’s standing upright, he has a shot to win MVP. He likely would have won last season if not for his sprained ankle that cost him five weeks at the end of the regular season.

Damian Lillard: +1100 at DraftKings

If Lillard is indeed dealt this offseason, we could see a motivated Lillard go off in a new setting. He’s always been on the cusp of the MVP conversation and is now entering his age-31 season, when Steve Nash won his first MVP.

Nikola Jokic: +1500 at DraftKings

There have been three back-to-back NBA MVP winners since 2012 (James in 2012 and 2013; Curry in 2015 and 2016; Giannis in 2019 and 2020). Can Jokic make it four?
