Donovan Mitchell is having another All-Star worthy season for the Cleveland Cavaliers. But future plans may overtake the needs of the present.

With most NBA insiders agreeing Mitchell has no intention in invoking his player option for 2025-26, the Cavs are thinking about making the franchise-altering decision of trading their top player for a king's ransom.

Playoff-hungry, or championship-hungry, teams will inquire if a one of the NBA's premier shooting guards with 2.5 years of contract remaining is on the block.

Bookies.com NBA veteran oddsmaker Adam Thompson has revealed his projected NBA futures odds for Donovan Mitchell’s next team.

Mitchell has one more season before a player option kicks in for 2025-26. The Cavs and Mitchell plan to work on a long-term extension, which can begin in earnest a day after the NBA Finals concludes. The hope is that the sides agree to a new deal, and Mitchell says he wants to stay in Cleveland.

If he stays, Garland’s representatives have reportedly leaked the news that they’ll request a trade for their client. If he goes, teams will be very interested in adding Mitchell for next year and for years beyond.

Several teams are already planting the seeds for a strong offer to the Cavs, and a max offer to Mitchell.

While the Miami Heat are forever linked to stars to pair with Jimmy Butler, Miami’s draft and trade stock aren’t great compared to other teams also interested.

The Houston Rockets are loaded with draft pieces and young, moveable players that can keep the Cavs competitive. Even more so, however, the New Orleans Pelicans, who can dangle Bradnon Ingram, himself reportedly on the block.

Miami is likely feeling more desperation with its aging roster to win now, but the Pelicans are eager to take the next step with Zion Williamson still in tow. Houston made it clear with last season’s flurry of moves that it’s looking to win sooner than later.

The Brooklyn Nets would reportedly love to build around a player such as Mitchell. The Los Angeles Lakers would love to have Mitchell as part of a Big 3 with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Mitchell, a New York native, and a player without a ring, could be enticed by either locale for different reasons.

The Field includes other teams that should have cap space and a desire to lock in a star via a trade in the near future, including the Toronto Raptors, Memphis Grizzlies and San Antonio Spurs.
