The Warriors' 2019-20 season went from bad to worse on Wednesday night as point guard Steph Curry suffered a broken left hand.

The future Hall of Famer will get further testing to determine the severity of the injury, but he could miss multiple months recovering.

It's a devastating blow to a Warriors team that wasn't getting much out of the rest of the roster. With Kevin Durant in Brooklyn and Klay Thompson already sidelined with a torn ACL, Curry, Draymond Green and newcomer D'Angelo Russell were carrying a heavy burden for a Warriors team shallow on depth and talent.

The results have not been pretty, either for the team’s fans or for those whose NBA betting hopes ride with the five-time defending Western Conference champions. Including Wednesday's embarrassing loss to the Suns, the Warriors are 1-3 and have the NBA's third-worst net rating. Even Curry had struggled, averaging just 20.3 points on 40.9% shooting (24.3% on 3-point shooting) and 6.5 assists in 28 minutes.

Once considered a sneaky pick to contend in the West, the Warriors are now +5000 to win the 2020 NBA championship. Those odds aren't worth touching. The new era of Warriors basketball could become a rebuild before they're contending in late May or June.

Golden State Warriors Future Plans

With Curry out, the Warriors will rely heavily on Russell and Green – two incredibly talented players, but in the gauntlet of the West, Golden State's playoff odds are in serious jeopardy.

The Warriors are just 1-3 against the spread this season, one year after going 44-58-2 against the spread (including the postseason), the NBA's second worst percentage. Oddsmakers will certainly take their ugly start and Curry's absence into account with future spreads, but the Warriors will be a shaky pick most nights.

Curry was also a darkhorse MVP candidate. It made sense, considering he had won the award in each of the previous two seasons before Durant signed in Golden State. Curry was going to carry a heavy burden for a team that still touted three All-Stars, and there was precedent for him leading a team to greatness with MVP-like numbers.

Those dreams are obviously dashed now. The Warriors are a mess and will struggle to make the postseason, especially with Curry shelved for multiple weeks, if not months. His MVP odds plummeted all the way down to +4000, the same as other injured stars Paul George and Trae Young.
