Coming off a season where the Los Angeles Clippers pushed the Phoenix Suns to the brink for their first NBA Finals appearance, expectations have dimmed after Kawhi Leonard’s partial ACL tear was made public during their Western Conference Finals matchup.

Leonard is projected to miss all the regular season, and potentially the entire 2021-22 season knowing how cautious he is with his body. Without Leonard, Paul George will step into the superstar role instead of being one of the best 1B options in the Association. Although Los Angeles will be without Leonard, they still have a very solid roster that can keep them afloat as a legit playoff contender who can make some noise.

Reggie Jackson and Nicolas Batum revived their careers last season with the Clippers utilizing them to their full potential. Terance Mann is an up-and-coming wing who perfectly fits where the league is heading with 3-and-D archetypes. Los Angeles has a well-balanced bench with ample amounts of scoring and defensive versatility. Tyronn Lue has now proven with the Clippers he’s one of the best, most underrated coaches as well.

How will the Clippers fare without Leonard in 2021-22? Let’s dive into the NBA futures odds from sportsbooks on the Clippers’ projected outlook.

Clippers Win-Total Betting

The Line: 45.5 with PointsBet

It’s a mystery how this Clippers team will function without Kawhi, but they should still be a threat in the Western Conference. When George was the No. 1 option against the Utah Jazz and Phoenix Suns in the playoffs, Los Angeles looked the part of a scrappy team who could push any squad around. If that same formula maintains over a full 82-game regular season, a projected win-total in the mid-40s feels right on the money from betting apps.

The Bet: This is going to be a close call at 45.5. With a deep roster and a true star in George, I will go with the Clippers hitting the over with 46 or more wins in 2021-22.

Clippers Pacific Division Odds

The Line: +900 with BetMGM

In terms of NBA odds, the Kawhi-less Clippers truly competing with the Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, and even the Golden State Warriors feels like a daunting task. If the Clippers get off to a hot start, potentially they could push for the division early on. However, could that maintain throughout the season?

The Bet: The Clippers are not on the same level as the true elites in their division without Leonard. From an NBA betting perspective, it’s hard to envision how Los Angeles can win the Pacific Division this season.

Clippers Western Conference Odds

The Line: +650 at DraftKings

Betting sites feel the Clippers will at least be competitive enough to be a real threat. to win the West. Los Angeles is tied for the fourth-best odds to make an NBA Finals appearance in a loaded conference slate. That alone says a lot about how underrated this Clippers roster is, and these odds could be very juicy if Leonard decides to return for a playoff run.

The Bet: Although this is an interesting idea in theory, I’m not going to bet on the Clippers making their first NBA Finals appearance in franchise history.

Clippers NBA Title Odds

The Line: +2000 with Caesars Sportsbook

The Clippers hold the eighth-best odds on Caesars Sportsbook to bring home the NBA 2022 title. Those odds feel generous, especially with the projection of Leonard missing the entire season. A deep roster led by a true star-caliber player in George will keep the Clippers competitive, potentially making another deep playoff run. However, will they actually break through above the West’s other elite rosters without Leonard alongside George on the wing?

The Bet: If the Clippers had Leonard, this would be an entirely different discussion. However, without Leonard, the Clippers likely come nowhere close to being true title threats this season.

Best Clippers Player Prop Bets

The Line: Paul George Regular Season MVP, +3600 with FanDuel

If the Clippers can be a very competitive team and comfortably make the playoffs, a lot of it will be due to Paul George playing like a superstar. A few years ago alongside Russell Westbrook on the Oklahoma City Thunder, George was a real MVP threat averaging close to 30 points per game. As the true No. 1 alpha on the 2021-22 Clippers, what if George puts the team completely on his back? It’s an intriguing exercise, especially from an NBA betting standpoint. George is one of the most talented two-way wings in the Association. If he comes out with an even more fired-up purpose, he could be one of the best dark-horse contenders with NBA MVP odds of +3600 at FanDuel.

The Bet: George has long odds to bring home the 2021-22 MVP award at +3600, however, this might be a long shot to throw a dart at. If George puts together a season where he is one of the league’s best scorers and wing defenders, he absolutely will garner MVP discussion. I lean towards George not winning MVP, but he has all the ingredients in place to at least keep his name in the race all season long.
