Christian Eriksen has been linked with a move away from Tottenham all summer.

Back in June, he told the Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet: “I feel that I am at a stage of my career where I would like to try something new. I hope that something will be decided this summer. That is the plan.”

Whoever gets Eriksen to sign on the dotted line will be getting one of the continent’s most creative players.

He has hit double figures for assists in each of the last four Premier League seasons, and only Jordi Alba and Kylian Mbappé got more Champions League assists than he did in 2018/19.

While there were rumours Manchester United were keen to secure his services, it has always looked more likely the Dane would be heading to the capital of Spain.

And that’s still the case, though to which Madrid club is now far less clear than it seemingly was earlier in the summer.

In early June when the aforementioned interview broke, and Eriksen was asked about the possibility of joining Real Madrid, sportsbooks were offering just 11/10 (+110) that he would be signing for Los Blancos.

Atleti Leapfrog Real In The Queue

The same UK bookmakers now offer 3/1 (+300) that he’ll be swapping north London for the Bernabeu, but they have a new favourite in the market – Atletico Madrid.

Diego Simeone’s side were barely even in the running in June, according to the bookies, and you could’ve got odds of 25/1 (+2500) for Eriksen to sign for them as recently as last week.

However, Atleti are now the 7/4 (+175) favourites after it was been reported they have opened talks with Tottenham over the possibility of a transfer.

Wherever Eriksen does end up, this market seems to be very much a two-horse race, as next in line beyond the two Madrid sides are Juventus, at a distant 16/1 (+1600).

Atleti may have the edge with Eriksen, as Real are more heavily linked to other top players.

The former Ajax man is the only player who has a shorter price for transferring to Atleti than to Real, unlike the likes of Paul Pogba, Paulo Dybala, Philippe Coutinho, Mauro Icardi and Timo Werner.

Will Eriksen soon be turning out in red and white stripes?
