We will have a 30th season of WNBA basketball this summer at US betting apps, with the league avoiding a costly lockout and free agents free to sign where they please starting on April 12.

One such free agent is two-time MVP Breanna Stewart, who is one of the biggest names in the WNBA's landmark 2026 free agency class. With that in mind, Bookies.com compiled speculative odds on where the former UConn star signs next.

Where Will Breanna Stewart Go Next?  

Breanna Stewart is the engine of the New York Liberty's championship window, a five-time All-WNBA First Team selection who restructured her own deal to keep the roster intact.  

She enters free agency alongside teammates Sabrina Ionescu, Jonquel Jones, and Natasha Cloud, giving New York one of the most complex cap puzzles of any team this offseason.  

Stewart has been vocal about wanting to stay in New York, and the Liberty's front office has expressed equal confidence in a reunion. The one variable adding genuine intrigue: a mounting injury history that includes knee and Achilles concerns, which complicates the length and value of any long-term deal. Our odds reflect strong loyalty, but not a certainty. 

There’s also the difficulty that comes from keeping players of Stewart’s level under the WNBA’s new and improved $7 million salary cap, with RotoWire.com estimating her to be one of two players (along with A’Ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces) to earn the league’s new $1.4 million ‘Supermax’ contract level.  

If Stewart gets that deal, it’d leave $5.6 million for the other three free agents from the Big Apple, with Ionescu projected to earn the full veteran max value of $1.2 million, along with Jones taking home a cool $1 million, per the team at RotoWire.com.  

While we don’t have a market projection for Cloud, we know that New York would have $3.4 million to spend on the rest of their roster if they paid the three above their projected values.  

Still, we think that New York will keep her, with the Liberty holding commanding, -500 (or 83.3%) odds of keeping her in town for a fourth season with the club in 2026.

Who Could Swoop in and Land Stewart?  

Should Stewart move on, keep an eye on teams like the Indiana Fever (+700), Atlanta Dream (+1000), Las Vegas Aces (+1400) and the duo of expansion clubs, in the Portland Fire (+1800) and Toronto Tempo (+2000).  

The prospect of Stewart plugging in beside Indiana’s pair of former No. 1 picks, in Caitlin Clark and forward Aliyah Boston, is enticing to hoops fans of all backgrounds.  

Still, given her comments about staying with the Liberty long-term, the most likely outcome as of now is for ‘Stewie’ to return for a fourth season with the 2024 WNBA champions this summer.
