Although Arizona sports betting won't see its first bet until Sept. 9, bettors can take advantage of early registration that went live at 12:01 a.m. MST Saturday to score promotions and free bets from top betting sites in the state.

The sportsbooks and betting apps that were officially licensed by the state on Friday were able to offer sign-up bonuses above-and-beyond the usual welcome offers and begin the registration process early Saturday.

Legal sports betting in Arizona can kick off on Sept. 9, in time for NFL betting and three days ahead of the Arizona Cardinals’ first game with the Tennessee Titans in Nashville.

Daily fantasy sports in Arizona also launched on Saturday.

A civil lawsuit was filed Thursday by the Yavapai-Prescott Indian Tribe to delay sports betting in Arizona. The suit, filed in the Maricopa County Superior Court, named Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey and Arizona Department of Gaming Director Ted Vogt as defendants in the case. A hearing is set for next week.

Five operators were offering early registration deals — DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars and WynnBet. Four of them had deals beginning Saturday, with three of those allowing customers to use their acquisition and early registration offerings simultaneously.

DraftKings gave customers a 20% first deposit match up to $1,000 as an acquisition offer, with up to $150 in free bets upon registration to those who sign up early.

FanDuel offered up to $1,000 in risk-free bets as an acquisition offer, with $100 in site credit on registration to those that register early. The operator, like DraftKings, is allowing customers to use both offers at the same time.

Caesars gave new customers a $100 free bet, plus a $1 free bet for every point/run in contests involving Arizona teams if the wager is made before Sept. 13. Those games included Arizona vs. San Diego State (Sept. 11) and Arizona State vs. UNLV (Sept. 11); Diamondbacks vs. Mariners (three games over Sept. 10-12); and the Arizona Cardinals vs. Tennessee Titans (Sept. 12).

An acquisition offer from Caesars includes up to $5,000 in risk-free bets, and the free bets could be used simultaneously. Customers entered the promotional code ‘BOOKIESRF’ to secure the offers.

For BetMGM, the operator’s acquisition offer was risk-free bets up to $1,000, with $200 in free bets to those that register early in Arizona. Unlike others, BetMGM customers are not permitted to use both offers at the same time. Enter the promotional code ‘BOOKIES’ to score the discounts.

WynnBET also said it will have early registration, but has not detailed its offer.

Sports Betting Licenses Approved

The Arizona Department of Gaming handed out 18 licenses Friday, with 10 given to Arizona tribes and the other eight awarded to Arizona professional sports teams and venues.

The department said on Wednesday that all sportsbook approvals are contingent upon the department’s expectation of gaming facilities and other steps.

Department officials assured operators during the call that licensing will be resolved in time for the start of sports betting in September.

All in all, it appears that sports betting in Arizona is full steam ahead for an on-time launch, with Saturday’s early registration giving further credence to such a belief.
