England are expected to shatter the record for British TV viewership of a women’s football match when they face Norway in the Women’s World Cup on Thursday.

England are into the quarter-finals of the Women’s World Cup and are on course to at least match their outing in 2015 — when they were one game away from the final.

A staggering 6.9million viewers watched England’s 3-0 win over Cameroon in the last-16 of the competition at the weekend.

But bookmakers Betway reckon that figure is set to be broken as fans flock to their TV sets to watch the Norway game.

England To Shatter Record?

Betway have set odds of 1/3 (-300) for the record UK viewing figure for a women’s game to be broken. Meanwhile, Phil Neville’s squad is 1/2 (-200) to beat Norway in Le Havre.

“We’re offering 10/3 for the girls to out-do the boys and make it to a World Cup final,” said Betway spokesman Alan Alger.

An estimated 20,000 England fans are expected to descend into the French town for the game, which is set to be played under record temperatures as France wilts under a heatwave.

France Or USA In Semi-Final

Meanwhile, the biggest match of the tournament so far is set to get underway on Friday evening.

Defending champions USA take on Women’s World Cup hosts France in what should be a firecracker of a match in Paris.

Bookies currently have France at 6/5 (+120) to go through from the clash, with USA favourites at 4/6 (-150).

And France’s odds on winning the tournament have drastically drifted, from 5/2 (+250) after their opening-game win over China to 4/1 (+400) now.

England Fourth Favourites

Meanwhile, England have seen their odds on winning the Women’s World Cup drift out to 7/1 (+700).

This is largely due to the draw, which has put England in the same half of the tournament as France and USA.

It has meant Germany — 8/1 (+800) to win the Women’s World Cup before the competition started — are now 9/2 (+450) third favourites with 888Sport to claim the title.
