Relief pitcher Evan Phillips hit the open market this offseason after being non-tendered by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He is expected back at some point during the 2026 season, likely in the second half, as he’s currently recovering from Tommy John surgery. That timeline changes the typical “free agent reliever” calculus at MLB betting apps — he’s more of a stash for contenders than an Opening Day bullpen piece. The Dodgers still make sense as the favorite given the fit, familiarity, and the idea that they could explore a reunion, but a handful of deep-pocketed contenders could also view Phillips as a high-leverage add for the stretch run.

The New York Yankees are one of the top World Series contenders in the league. The team doesn’t have the strongest bullpen, though, so adding Phillips to it, particularly for the second half of the season, would be a great addition for the Bronx Bombers.

Philadelphia Phillies (+550)

The Philadelphia Phillies have one of the strongest teams in the National League and are one of the Dodgers’ biggest rivals. What better way to hurt the Dodgers than to steal one of their top relievers? The Phillies have deep pockets, and Phillips would be a great addition to their team.

Chicago Cubs (+650)

The Chicago Cubs had a big season last year and are expected to make a further leap in 2026. Adding a solid RP like Phillips to their bullpen would certainly be a nice addition to the Cubbies.

Seattle Mariners (+800)

The Seattle Mariners are considered one of the top teams in the American League this season. The team already has a strong bullpen, but adding Phillips for the stretch run would be a huge addition to a Mariners team that is considered a possibility to make it to the World Series.

Phillips is an excellent relief pitcher, and with most MLB teams looking for relievers, the field is a viable option for him to get picked up by, as almost any team could use him.
