This week’s AT&T Byron Nelson marks the last PGA Tour stop before the second major of the season. And some of the biggest names in golf betting have gathered in the Dallas area for a final tune-up ahead of the PGA Championship May 20-23 at the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island.

The Byron Nelson is moving to its third different venue in five years, with TPC Craig Ranch set to host for the first time. The course in McKinney, Texas, a suburb of Dallas, has twice hosted the Korn Ferry Tour Championship back when it was known as the Nationwide Tour. This will be the first PGA Tour event ever at TPC Craig Ranch.

Jon Rahm is the betting favorite at +850 following a disappointing missed cut at last week’s Wells Fargo Championship. Bryson DeChambeau is next at +900 and world No. 1 Dustin Johnson is even with Jordan Spieth at +1200.

This also marks the return to competition for Hideki Matsuyama. The reigning Masters champion is sixth on the board at +2000 coming off his first career major victory.

AT&T Byron Nelson Expert Picks & Predictions

Talor Gooch Top-10 Finish (+550, DraftKings)

Gooch is one of just a few players in the field with past success at TPC Craig Ranch. He finished T-7 at 18-under for the week at this course during the second stage of Korn Ferry Tour Q-School in 2016 and went on to earn his PGA Tour card at the final stage.

Gooch was eighth in the field in Strokes Gained Tee-To-Green last week and finished T-26 at Quail Hollow. He has three top-10s this season, including a T-5 at the Players Championship and solo fourth at the Houston Open in November. He can also take it low, as we saw with a solo fifth at 16-under in the Zozo Championship this season.

We really like Gooch’s current form and the fact that he has played well here when it mattered most – he’ll be under far less pressure this week than he was at Q-School in 2016, when his professional golf career hung in the balance. We’re on Gooch for a top-10 finish at +550 at DraftKings.

AT&T Byron Nelson Betting Tips

These first-time venues are always a bit of a crapshoot, especially for those like us who rely pretty heavily on course history when breaking down the board.

This is also a completely different venue than last week’s Wells Fargo at Quail Hollow, which played brutally tough all weekend. There should be plenty of birdies for the taking at TPC Craig Ranch – the course yielded winning scores of 17-under par and 16-under for the 2008 and 2012 Korn Ferry Tour Championships.

When we don’t have much to go on in terms of course setup and the type of game it will favor, we rely heavily on current form. Specifically, we’re looking at guys who hit it great at Quail Hollow but lost strokes on the green, as well as guys who have strung a few solid tournaments together.

This course should play much easier than the last two venues in Innisbrook’s Copperhead Course and Quail Hollow. Guys who chugged along to a solid result by stringing pars together the past two weeks will need to step on the gas this week, so we also want to target guys who are comfortable in a shootout and make a lot of birdies.
