Matt Fitzpatrick’s victory at the Country Club capped an epic four days for the U.S. Open at The Country Club in Brookline, with a pristine golden-age course yielding very few complaints and an A+ leaderboard providing serious drama down the stretch.

It was all a very welcome distraction from the insurgent LIV Golf, which added another multi-major champion to its roster Tuesday in Brooks Koepka. As of now, he’s still listed on the golf betting board for this week’s Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut.

This event has drawn a particularly strong field for what’s usually a major-hangover week, with Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy topping betting sites and betting apps as co-favorites with +900 odds. Scheffler came up one shot short in his T-2 U.S. Open finish, while McIlroy struggled to get it going over the weekend en route to a T-5.

Justin Thomas was a U.S. Open co-favorite and goes off just behind Scheffler and McIlroy with +1000 odds. The PGA Championship winner never seriously contended at the Country Club and logged a ho-hum T-37. Patrick Cantlay is next with golf odds of +1400 and Sam Burns rounds out the top five at +1800 after a T-27 finish at the Country Club.

Denny McCarthy Top-10 Finish

McCarthy was 5-over through 15 holes in Round 1 of the U.S. Open and looked like he had no chance to make the cut. Then he went to work, playing his final 57 holes at 6-under to log his first career top-10 major finish at T-7 and 1-under total for the week.

That came on the heels of a T-5 finish at the Memorial, and TPC River Highlands should suit his game better than either of those courses. McCarthy is accurate off the tee and has an excellent short game. He’s enjoying the best season of his career to date and should be brimming with confidence this week.

Travelers Championship Betting Tips

This is a course where the shorter hitters can definitely compete. TPC River Highlands is one of the shortest tracks on Tour and position off the tee is far more important than distance. Those types of weeks are always a welcome sight for some in the field.

There’s tons of course history to go on here, but we can also rely heavily on Strokes Gained numbers from the U.S. Open considering everyone should be at their most attentive on major weeks. Certain players tend to play better than others coming off a major – Jordan Spieth, for example, has finished T-12 or better six consecutive times in his first start after a major.

It’s usually not a complete shootout around here, but guys will definitely need to go low and make a lot of birdies to compete at one of the more gettable tracks for players of all skillsets.
