Climate activist Greta Thunberg is the betting favorite to win the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize following an impassioned address to world leaders last month at the United Nations.

Paddy Power lists Thunberg at -175 in its latest assessment of potential Nobel Peace Prize recipients. The winner will be announced at 6 a.m. ET Oct. 11 at the Norwegian Nobel Institute in Oslo, Norway. Thunberg, 16, would become the youngest Nobel laureate of all time and has been given a serious edge by European bookmakers. Betting on the Nobel Prize and politics is not available in the United States.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has the second-best odds at +175.

Thunberg’s Sep. 23 speech on climate change immediately went viral and elicited a strong response from those on both sides of the issue. The Swedish teenager first gained attention in 2018 after leading a strike outside the Swedish Parliament and has since issued a call to action on climate change and its dire consequences in speeches all over Europe.

Vladimir Putin criticized Thunberg’s U.N. speech Wednesday and called her “poorly informed.” The Russian President is also listed on Paddy Power’s Nobel Peace Prize odds, albeit as a long shot – Putin’s odds are currently +5000.

Trump’s Long Nobel Peace Prize Odds

Ahmed took the Ethiopian Presidency in 2015 amid cultural and economic turmoil and has been successful in bringing stability and peace to the African nation. New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Arden has the third-best odds at +900 while the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees program is fourth at +1400.

Other notable names include American whistleblower Edward Snowden (+2000), WikiLeaks founder Julian Asssange (+2000) and President Donald Trump (+2500).

Trump believes he deserves the award for trying to bring peace to the Korean Peninsula in multiple meetings with North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Trump recently suggested he believes the Nobel process is rigged and that he won’t win the award because the selection protocol is unfair.

Former British Prime Minister Theresa May is listed at +15000.
