The Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday announced a multi-year agreement with DraftKings as its exclusive official daily fantasy sports partner.

Michael Jordan, sports icon and owner of the Hornets, joined DraftKings as a special adviser to the company’s board of directors in September.

Along with access to Hornets trademarks and logos, DraftKings-branded LED signage will be featured courtside and on the basket supports at Spectrum Center, in addition to logo displays on top of the backboards, according to a news release.

The DFS deal increases DraftKings’ presence in North Carolina. The Hornets will also collaborate on social promotions and content with DraftKings.

Although the North Carolina law legalized sports betting at two Cherokee casinos the western part of the state, no sports bets have been placed in the state. New legislation is expected in the 2021 legislative session in an attempt to legalize online sports betting in North Carolina.

“Charlotte Hornets basketball games are must-watch TV for the NBA, and we look forward to providing Hornets fans with a best-in-class gaming experience,” Ezra Kucharz, chief business officer at DraftKings, said in the news release. “We look forward to deepening our business relationship with the Hornets organization through this new agreement and showcasing DraftKings in North Carolina.”

DraftKings & Other Partnerships

The Hornets are the sixth NBA team DraftKings has a partnership with — the Boston Celtics, Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, Philadelphia 76ers and the New York Knicks are the others. It is also DraftKings’ 14th professional team partnership overall.

“We’re excited to enter this partnership with DraftKings and bring its daily fantasy sports products to our great Hornets fans,” Hornets Sports & Entertainment President & Vice Chairman Fred Whitfield said in the release. “Collaborating with DraftKings will allow us to offer our fans engaging new experiences from the leader in this emerging area.”

The Hornets and DraftKings plan to develop a free-to-play, Hornets-themed predictive game that will integrate within the team’s mobile app, the release said.

DraftKings Sportsbook is live with mobile and/or retail betting operations in Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. They are also the official daily fantasy partner of the NFL, MLB, NASCAR and the PGA Tour.

The Hornets, 7-10 on the season, return home tonight to face the Indiana Pacers (10-7).
