The New England Patriots have emerged as the NFL betting favorite to land WR Julio Jones for the 2021 NFL season.
Jones is +200 to land in New England at DraftKings and PointsBet. The odds as to where Jones will take his first snap in 2021 are available in a limited number of states at each of those online sportsbooks. Jones is still under contract with the Atlanta Falcons, who finished 4-12 last season and chose Florida TE Kyle Pitts with the fourth pick in the 2021 NFL draft.
Jones told FS1’s Shannon Sharpe on the “Undisputed” show Monday that he plans to leave to the Falcons prior to the start of the season.
"I'm outta there," Jones told Sharpe via telephone on the show. "Right now, I wanna win."
Jones originally sought a trade by the Falcons at the start of the offseason, and General Manager Terry Fontenot said the Falcons would consider deals to deal the 32-year-old, All-Pro wideout.
ESPN's Adam Schefter has reported that the Falcons would trade Jones for the right price and would aim to ship him out of the NFC.

Jones has averaged 95.5 receiving yards per game, the most of anyone in NFL history who has played more than 100 games. He has 848 career catches, 60 TDs and 12,896 yards receiving. Jones carries a $15.3 million fully guaranteed base salary in 2021. But his cap hit for Atlanta is currently $23.05 million this year and $19.263 million in 2022 and 2023.
The Falcons have limited cap space available and need to wipe out about $10 million off the books for 2021 if they hope to sign all of their draft picks. Any deal for Jones would likely not become official until after June 1. At that time, Jones’ dead cap hit after a trade would slip to $7.75 million for the Falcons and a deal would clear an additional $15.3 million in cap space for 2021.

The Patriots are +3200 in the latest Super Bowl odds, and +1600 to win the AFC in NFL futures markets at FanDuel. The team loaded up on free agents this offseason. New England began the post-Tom-Brady era with a 7-9 season in 2020 that saw the team finish under .500 for the first time since 2000. Meanwhile, the team has considered dealing for Jones, reported NFL Network’s Mike Girardi.

The addition of Jones would give the Patriots a deep threat the team has not had since the days of Randy Moss. Cam Newton, at least publicly, remains Bill Belichick’s choice as New England’s starting QB in Week 1, even though the Patriots chose Alabama QB Mac Jones with the 15th overall pick in the NFL draft.
The Patriots are one of several teams who could absorb the $15.3 million contract guarantee that comes with any deal for Jones. New England currently has $15.9 million in 2021 cap space, according to the Over The Cap. Among the other teams favored to land Jones in a trade, the Chargers ($16.5 million), Colts ($17.6 million) and Browns ($17.9 million) have enough cap space to acquire Jones without having to make any corresponding cuts.
