With the 2026 NBA trade deadline approaching, Karl-Anthony Towns’ name has surfaced in light league chatter, but the strongest reporting suggests the Knicks are not actively shopping the All-Star big man. Still, if New York pivots, a handful of teams have been loosely linked as potential fits. Bookies.com has developed NBA odds on where Towns could land if a deal materializes before the deadline.

Where Will KAT Go Next?

In the midst of his second season with the Knicks, the man lovingly known as ‘KAT’ is arguably putting up All-Star caliber numbers once again, averaging 20.8 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.

The other complicating factor for Towns is the fact that the 31-year-old carries a salary cap hit of just over $61 million in 2027-28 and more than $110 over the course of this season and next, making his deal a tough pill to swallow for any contending teams that might want to add a player of his skill set.

That’s part of the reason why we’re still giving New York commanding odds of keeping KAT in town once the NBA trade deadline comes and goes next month, with the No. 3 seed in the East sitting at -240 to keep the veteran forward in town through the end of the year (at least).

Should the Knicks opt to make a move, keep an eye on teams with lots of salary cap space, such as the No. 11 seeded Memphis Grizzlies (+900), or an up-and-coming squad like the No. 7 seeded Orlando Magic (+1300) or the No. 11 seeded Charlotte Hornets (+1900).

Rounding out our KAT odds board is the ninth seeded Portland Trail Blazers, who check in at +2400 to land the forward out of Kentucky this season, though the franchise will have to clear some space to do so as Spotrac.com currently gives the club -$42 million in cap space right now.

 How We Got Here

Given owner James Dolan’s ‘win-now’ edict during a radio interview last week, it seems like the Knicks are going to do anything they can to avoid another postseason flame out, which could inspire team leadership to move their veteran big man.

Given New York’s current slide (losing [X] out of their last 10 games), it seems like there’s a definite need to shake things up in the Big Apple, potentially leading the team to move on from KAT after a season-plus of the two sides working together in Manhattan.
