Cost to Attend the Kentucky Derby 2026

How much does it cost to go to the Kentucky Derby? There are wide-ranging possibilities.

For those looking to save money but still watch the best horses in the world, the best value option might be “The Run for the Roses Package,” which costs $268 and includes tickets to all six Derby Week events.

Overall, a Kentucky Derby budget guide includes tickets to the event (or events covering all of Derby Week) and many other factors. Hotels in and around Louisville charge three to five times their normal rates during Derby weekend. And resale prices for on-site parking shot up to as much as $1,000 last year (our survey’s parking prices reflect cheaper, off-site or remote lots with shuttle buses).

And Kentucky Derby trip cost for flying is steep. Louisville International Airport’s fares surge two or three times their normal rates on Derby weekend.

Attending Is Cheaper For Locals

All told, locals have it easiest on Derby weekend. They don’t need accommodations or flights, leaving more money to pay for gas ($0 to $20), parking ($30 to $150) and more fun expenditures like food and drinks ($50-$150), outfits ($0 to $300) and wagering ($0 to $250).

Kentucky Derby ticket prices run the gamut, from the $138 general admission rate to $970 and up for reserved seats.

The most expensive option is for those flying into Louisville. That adds at least $300, up to $900 on airfare, plus $600 to $2,000 (or more) for Kentucky Derby hotel prices or other accommodation options.

The middle road is for those close enough to Churchill Downs to drive there. Folks doing that still pay for a place to stay and a higher gas bill ($40 to $120) but this option saves them from having to pony up for airfare.

Those coming to Churchill Downs from the greater Louisville region can cut Kentucky Derby 2026 costs. The lone aspect of race day that locals can’t avoid, though, is the price of admission. Infield general admission is $138, but you can pay more than $2,200 if you want to go all out on May 2.

Locals can also take advantage of other race day savings, such as taking alternate transportation to save on parking. That money can go toward more frivolous expenditures, such as a $22 mint julep. A beer, runs anywhere from $13 on up, depending on your preference.

How to Wager On 2026 Kentucky Derby

Race day betting lines are still on the horizon, but we know the preliminary betting favorites for 2026 Kentucky Derby wagering. Fans at online betting sites would be wise to hold off on betting on the thoroughbred that’s the betting favorite, based on how they’ve performed of late.

Nonetheless, for those looking at 2026 Kentucky Derby betting odds, Churchill Downs’ in-house race operator, TwinSpires, has Todd Pletcher’s Renegade as the early betting favorite with 9-2 odds as of April 16.

Pletcher has two Kentucky Derby victories to his name, with Super Saver in 2010 and Always Dreaming in 2017. He hasn’t had a horse place better than third since, with Audible finishing that high in 2018.

Our guide to Kentucky Derby 2026 how to attend shows that those living close enough to Louisville can save substantially. Locals might as well have some fun while they’re at the track, with this year’s early favorite and other contenders like Brad Cox’s Further Ado (5-1) and Commandment (6-1). Other horses to watch include Bill Mott’s Chief Wallabee and Gustavo Delgado’s The Puma (both 10-1), each having solid to bringing home the roses on the first Saturday of May.
