With the NBA trade deadline approaching, it looks like veteran Kyle Kuzma’s contract could make him a key matching-salary piece, according to Bookies.com’s hypothetical next-team odds ahead of the Feb. 5 deadline.

Kuzma has been floated in trade chatter as Milwaukee gauges options for roster upgrades; reports indicate the Bucks have explored his market but moving him cleanly may require incentives given contract dynamics. Bookmark our NBA odds and keep tabs here ahead of the deadline.

Who Lands Kyle Kuzma?

Given that Kuzma has another year left on the deal he signed with the Washington Wizards ahead of the 2023-24 league year, it seems like a trade will be the most likely way that the ninth year veteran out of Utah gets moved.

With that NBA’s deadline approaching on Feb. 5, it’ll be interesting to see which teams (if any) step up to make a move for the 30-year-old power forward, who’s averaging 12.5 points per game with 6.2 rebounds on 45.2% shooting this year.

Given that Milwaukee’s currently on the outside looking in at the NBA’s play-in bracket at 18-26, now would likely be the time for Bucks GM Jon Horst to make a move, with teams like the Brooklyn Nets (+600), Memphis Grizzlies (+900), Phoenix Suns (+1200) and Charlotte Hornets (+2000) being our leading candidates for Kuzma right now.

Unfortunately for the veteran, of those teams, only the Suns are currently in the playoff race, with Phoenix currently sitting in seventh place out West at 27-19, while the Nets (12-32), Grizzlies (18-26) and Hornets (19-28) are all on the outside looking in currently.

Kuzma’s salary cap hit is relatively budget-friendly, though, sitting at $20.3 million for the 2026-27 league year before he becomes an unrestricted free agent at season’s end, potentially assisting Horst in his effort to move him.

What Kyle Kuzma Adds For Teams

Kuzma’s on court productivity has tailed off in recent years, with his win share totals dropping from a career best of 3.8 as a rookie with the Los Angeles Lakers way back in 2017-18 to a low of -1.3 with Washington last season.

The wily veteran has been able to get his productivity above water this year, however, with 1.4 win shares in 42 games played with Milwaukee, with both his offensive (0.5) and defensive win shares (0.9) being above the break-even point.

Given his experience in the league, with 583 games under his belt and the rebounding chops he brings off the bench, it could be high time for a Kuzma trade, though we’ll have to sit back and see whether any other league executives take a swing at landing the 30-year-old ahead of the NBA’s deadline in early February.
