Starting pitcher Lucas Giolito is one of the top remaining MLB free agents, with Spring Training just a few weeks away. Coming off a solid season with the Boston Red Sox, it’s a bit surprising that Giolito has lingered this far into free agency, but he is expected to sign with a new team soon. If that’s the case, then we have a few potential destinations where he may wind up.

MLB Clubs With Giolito Interest

Baltimore Orioles (+275)

The Baltimore Orioles are looking to get back into the playoffs after a down season, and they have been connected to starting pitching throughout free agency. Signing Giolito would be a nice get for an Orioles rotation that could surely be helped by having the former All-Star in it.

St. Louis Cardinals (+400)

The St. Louis Cardinals are in full rebuild mode and recently traded Sonny Gray to the Boston Red Sox, where he will essentially take Giolito’s spot in their rotation. That leaves a hole to fill in the Cardinals’ rotation, so signing someone like Giolito can fill that spot and soak up innings.

Atlanta Braves (+550)

The Atlanta Braves have a strong starting pitching rotation, but ace Chris Sale is one of the oldest pitchers in the league, and it’s hard to predict his health this upcoming season. Signing someone like Giolito would give the Braves some added depth in case Sale gets hurt again.

Arizona Diamondbacks (+650)

The Arizona Diamondbacks are projected to have one of the weakest starting pitching rotations in MLB, so they could use some depth heading into Spring Training, which Giolito could provide, especially with Corbin Burnes still recovering from the Tommy John surgery he had last year.

New York Yankees (+800)

The New York Yankees have one of the top rotations in baseball on paper, but they have several pitchers who are currently injured, including Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon. Signing someone like Gioloto away from the rival Red Sox would be a huge get for the Yankees’ rotation, as he would provide depth for their injuries, plus he’s coming off a strong year.

The Field (+500)

Giolito is one of the top starting pitchers still available in free agency, and with starting pitching arguably the most important position in baseball, nearly every team could use someone like him to strengthen their rotation. That’s why The Field has a very real chance to sign him this year.
