Melbourne Cup Field 2025

The final entries and barrier draw for the 2025 Melbourne Cup aren't locked in until Saturday. Judging by the 2024 field, we're likely to have the maximum field of 24, with representation from all across the globe. We'll likely see Ireland, the UK and New Zealand represented, with a chance of a couple of Japanese runners too.

Fancied runners like Half Yours, Valiant King, Presage Nocturne and Al Riffa are all ones to watch when the barrier draw takes place. The Caulfield Cup is often the best pointer for the Melbourne Cup. 12 horses have done the double, including Without A Fight in 2023. Half Yours looks to match the feat this year, but our Melbourne Cup tip for 2025 was a horse that failed to win the Caulfield Cup a couple of weeks ago.

Valiant King ran a cracker to finish third behind Half Yours last time out. Drawn 16, he did much the best of those drawn in double digits despite being outpaced early on and racing in last.
