Mohamed Salah is once again the new favourite to win the Premier League golden boot as a surge in goalscoring form sees football bookmakers tighten their odds.

Salah has scored two goals in his last three games, having battled through an eight-match barren spell during the spring.

And bookmakers are shifting their Golden Boot odds as Salah moves alongside Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero on 19 goals and seven assists.

The bookies have seen their odds on Salah topple following his stunning strike in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday.

Salah is now 6/4 (+150) with bookmakers BetHard to win the Golden Boot this season. That’s ahead of Aguero – who is 2/1 (+200) with 888Sport despite the fact the Argentine is bang on the same goals as his adversary.

So why is Salah the favourite? Amazingly, even though Aguero has one extra league game to play compared to his rival, punters are siding with the Liverpool man.

Liverpool are a point ahead of Manchester City at the top of the table, but City have five games remaining as opposed to the Reds’ four.

Aguero is out at 2/1 (+200)? because City have the tougher run-in, even though they have the extra game and remain the title favourites (4/5, -125).

They face Tottenham in Europe and the league this month — two exhausting games that may not set Pep Guardiola’s men up too well for a midweek trip to Manchester United, against whom Aguero boasts just one goal in eight games.

Also, Burnley, Leicester and Brighton are all capable of springing a surprise and Aguero may end up being rested in these Premier League games if City edge closer to the Champions League final.

Meanwhile, Salah faces one relegated side (Huddersfield), another likely to go down (Cardiff) and a Newcastle team with nothing to play for. Only Wolves on the last day of the season seemingly pose any sort of real threat.

So punters are backing Salah here, forcing his price in. But could there be another contender for Golden Boot? Liverpool’s Sadio Mane is on 18 goals and is 11/2 (+550) to claim the prize after scoring against Chelsea on Sunday.
