NBA teams will cover more than 1.2 million miles in 2026-27. This Thursday, we'll reveal which team will travel the farthest and which will log the fewest miles. For comparison, all 30 teams combined for 1,291,214.70 miles across 1,071 time zones last season. Bookies.com calculates every team's total each NBA season.
The 81st NBA season begins on Tuesday, October 20, at 3 p.m. when the Boston Celtics visit the Detroit Pistons. That unique starting time signals something will be different this year. The Association continues its international push with games in Paris, Mexico City, and Manchester, England. The NBA released its marquee games on Tuesday. The full schedule drops Thursday afternoon. As we do each season, Bookies.com will calculate the total NBA Miles Traveled and the miles traveled for each team.
Last season, the 30 NBA teams covered 1,291,214.70 miles and crossed through 1071 time zones. The Orlando Magic topped the list by covering 55,140.7 miles, thanks in sizable part to a two-game series with the Memphis Grizzlies in Berlin and London.
The Dallas Mavericks covered the most miles of any team not leaving the Western Hemisphere. The Mavs traveled 50,059 miles, including a game against the Detroit Pistons in Mexico City.
The Indiana Pacers traveled the fewest miles at 35,315.30.
NBA Calendar Highlights & Postseason Setup
The NBA offers 5 games on Christmas Day. The Association finds itself in direct competition with the NFL Shield for eyeballs on the holiday. Play begins at noon Eastern and runs non-stop until the final game on the West Coast that begins at 10:30 p.m.
On Martin Luther King Day, all 30 NBA teams usually take the court, providing fans and users of betting apps with a packed schedule to follow.
The NBA is expected to bring back its Rivalry Week this season. Last season, it showcased 10 nationally televised games during the final full week of January.
The NBA offers a scheduling quirk to maintain competitive balance heading into the playoffs. All 30 teams play on the third-to-last day of the regular season and the final day of the regular season. On that day. all the Eastern Conference Games begin at 1 p.m., while the interconference game and the Western Conference Games tip at 3:30 p.m.
NBA Delivers The Goods On Christmas Day
The NBA hit back at the NFL this year on Christmas Day. This year is perhaps the best Yuletide offering of games since the days of Jordan, Kobe and Shaq.
This year, it delivers a five-game extravaganza filled with intriguing storylines featuring past and present champions, regular-season MVPs, Finals MVPs, All-Stars and All-NBA selections.

NBA Finals Rematch
The Knicks and Spurs resume hostilities at MSG. The Spurs may never recover from their NBA Finals loss in Game 4. They blew a 27-point halftime lead in that one with a chance to tie the series at 2-2. The Knicks are a Christmas Day mainstay. They’ve played on the holiday 59 times, with 51 of those games hosted at the World’s Most Famous Arena. No matter the iteration.
The Giannis Bowl
The Boston Celtics entertain the Miami Heat at TD Garden. Miami swiped Giannis Antetokounmpo from right under Brad Stevens’ nose this offseason. For those inclined to wager, the Heat are 9-0 on Christmas Day under Erik Spoelstra and 12-2 outright overall.
LeBron vs Lakers/Bronny?
The locked-and-loaded Philadelphia 76ers visit the Lakers. LeBron James faces his most-recent employer. And – possibly – his son in what will be his 21st Christmas Day game. However, Bronny has been the subject of trade rumors to none other than Philly. So this may be just another ho-hum Sixers-Lakers contest.
Jolly St. Nikola
Denver’s Nikola Jokic enjoys giving on Christmas. In his six Christmas games, he’s clocked three triple doubles – including that 56/16/15 performance last season in OT against Minnesota.
