The U.S. Ryder Cup team desperately needs a win in 2027, but it won't come with Tiger Woods leading the team at golf betting apps. Woods, long thought to be the Ryder Cup captain in Ireland at Adare Manor for the 2027 edition, is dealing with the aftermath of his recent DUI arrest and will not captain the team. The PGA of America confirmed the news in early April, clearing the way for a new captain to try and deliver the U.S.' first road victory since 1993.
But who will take the reins? Bookies.com breaks down the odds board of who will face European captain Luke Donald next year. Donald, of course, is going for a three-peat as captain in Ireland.
Who Will Captain Team USA at the 2027 Ryder Cup?
Tiger Woods has officially ruled himself out. With the captaincy wide open, who leads the Americans to Adare Manor in Ireland?
Bradley led the US to a heartbreaking 15-13 home defeat at Bethpage Black in 2025 and has publicly stated he "may never get over" the loss. That emotional investment — and his youth at 39 — makes him the logical choice to lead the revenge mission at Adare Manor. The PGA of America has precedent for returning captains after close defeats.
The clear Plan B if Bradley steps aside. Furyk has been involved in the last five Ryder Cups in a backroom capacity and captained the US Presidents Cup team, where Bradley called it "the best job I've ever seen done as captain." His 2018 loss in France is the asterisk, but his accumulated experience at Adare-level events is unmatched in the field.
The continuity argument is compelling — Snedeker captains the US at the 2026 Presidents Cup, giving him a live dress rehearsal before the Ryder Cup. He served as a vice-captain at Bethpage and has the best playing record of the Bethpage vice-captains at 4-2-0. If the PGA of America wants to keep the same infrastructure, Snedeker is the move.
Simpson's seat on the PGA Tour's policy board signals front-office credibility beyond just playing pedigree. A likable, respected figure who went 4-4-1 across three Ryder Cup appearances as a player. His administrative experience and relationships with current Tour players give him a quiet edge in the boardroom conversation.
A name that emerged specifically in the post-Woods vacuum. Cink's five Ryder Cup appearances give him genuine player credibility, and his PGA Tour Champions schedule frees up time for the captain's extensive commitments. Going 5-7-7 as a player is modest, but his winning record in 2025 on Champions shows his competitive fire hasn't faded at 52.
The last man to actually win the Ryder Cup for the US — and did so in record-breaking fashion (19-9) at Whistling Straits in 2021. The case for Stricker is pure experience and a no-nonsense track record. The case against: the Whistling Straits result came in a uniquely fan-restricted environment, and the PGA of America may prefer a fresher face for the centenary edition.
A popular, fiery personality who served as a Bethpage vice-captain, but the notable knock is that Kisner never played in the Ryder Cup as a player. That gap in credentials makes him a long shot for the captaincy in what is the centenary edition — a moment that demands someone with direct experience on the biggest stage.
Covers any surprise appointment outside the seven named candidates — a Matt Kuchar, a Gary Woodland, or a name yet to emerge. The PGA of America has surprised the market before, and with Woods now out, there's more uncertainty than usual around this captaincy. The field price reflects meaningful residual uncertainty.

Keegan Bradley Still Favorite To Repeat As U.S. Captain
Bradley wore his heart on his sleeve as the 2025 captain. While mistakes were certainly made - alternate shot strategy/the Collin Morikawa-Harris English pairing, to name a couple - Bradley did one thing losing U.S. captains have too often failed to do. He kept the locker room intact, and seemingly left Bethpage with players more than open to a return captaincy.
It's also worth noting Bradley probably should have been a player on the team, rather than a captain in his prime. The PGA of America put him in a tough spot, and redemption for all sides would be a great story.
We like Bradley to repeat as a Ryder Cup captain, but it may not necessarily be in Ireland. Bradley could still make next year's team as a player and go through another awkward debate of whether to pick himself or not. Davis Love III captained the 2012 Ryder Cup team in a heartbreaking home loss, saw Tom Watson take the reins in 2014, then came back to lead the U.S. squad to an authoritative win in 2016 at Hazeltine.
Should Bradley not get the nod for 2027, look for him again down the line when he's less of a threat to make the team, and has a little more distance from the crushing loss at Bethpage.

Beyond Keegan, Who Else Can Captain The U.S. Ryder Cup Team?
With Woods out and Bradley perhaps being too soon to repeat, it brings several veterans of past teams into play. The issue is few, if any, are in a well-timed place in their career to captain.
Jim Furyk +400
Furyk is arguably the most experienced backroom figure in recent U.S. Ryder Cup history, having served as a vice captain or captain in every edition since 2014, culminating in his own captaincy at the 2018 matches in Paris. The knock on Furyk is that 2018 loss was lopsided -- a 17.5-10.5 defeat at Le Golf National -- and the PGA of America may view him as a been-there-done-that option rather than a fresh voice.
Still, his institutional knowledge and respect among players keep him firmly in the conversation, especially if the PGA wants a steady hand for a daunting road assignment. Worth noting: Furyk also was the winning Presidents Cup Captain in 2024, which had to take a little bit of the sting out of the 2018 loss.
Brandt Snedeker +700
The two-time Ryder Cup player will lead the U.S. Presidents Cup team this fall in Chicago. That both helps and hurts his Ryder Cup candidacy.
The PGA of America has long resisted going with the same captain from the PGA Tour-operated match play event the year before, and it feels a bit risky to name Snedeker the captain just because of this. The U.S. at the Presidents Cup, as always, will be heavy favorites across golf betting. But with the PGA of America's luck, they could name Snedeker the Ryder Cup captain, only to see a shocking loss this fall to the Internationals. Then Snedeker would be coming off an even worse loss than Bradley at Bethpage. Snedeker's Presidents Cup team losing is extremely unlikely, but the slight threat - and whether it's simply too much to do both in back-to-back years - make him a candidate but not a favorite for Ireland.
Webb Simpson +900
Simpson, the 2012 U.S. Open champion, was Bradley's first-named assistant captain for Bethpage, and also has served as a Presidents Cup assistant in years past. He also still has playing privileges on the PGA Tour to keep up with the potential roster.
The knock on Simpson would be the same as Bradley, though. Simply unproven.
The Longhsots
Stewart Cink +1800
Cink played on 5 Ryder Cup teams and enjoyed a late career surge to a couple more wins in the 2021 PGA Tour season. Those didn't get him on that year's victorious Ryder Cup team, but they did help him get into the assistant captain mix, where he served under Zach Johnson in 2023.
The awkward part for Cink is he interviewed for the 2025 captaincy that went to Bradley. That may have been his chance. Now he's dominating on the Champions Tour.
Steve Stricker +2000
Easily the most proven captain on the U.S. side. Stricker was outstanding in 2021 at Whistling Straits, but seems to have no interest in a return.
Golf fans would love to see him square off against Donald in 2027, but there just appears to be little smoke around another tour of duty for Stricks.
Kevin Kisner +2500
Kisner is half-player, half-broadcaster these days. He's been on the assistant captain duty for a few years now as well, but he strangely never played in a Ryder Cup. It's hard to picture him getting the job over Bradley or Simpson this time around.
The Field +1400
Like the Bradley selection two years ago, the PGA of America can always go off the board.
Justin Leonard is 53 but still relevant on the Champions Tour. He played in 3 Ryder Cups, won 2 and is a major champion. David Toms, 59, also played 3 Ryder Cups and won the PGA. Freddie Couples won 3 Presidents Cups as captain, but never got the Ryder Cup call. There's still time.
Whichever way the PGA of America goes, they should make a selection soon, as the European side is stacked with veteran leadership under Donald. It will take a truly special effort from the next American Ryder Cup captain to have the team competing in Ireland in less than 2 years time.
