The Seattle Seahawks are on the clock. The NFL champions open the 2026-27 season at home. But who will the Seahawks play to start their title defense? Here are our Seahawks NFL Week 1 Opening Opponent Odds.

The Seahawks beat the New England Patriots 29-13 in Super Bowl 60 on Feb. 8. The Patriots are one of the home opponents for the NFL champions this season. The last time the NFL season opened with a Super Bowl rematch occurred 10 years ago. In 2016. the Denver Broncos met the Carolina Panthers in a replay of Super Bowl 50. The NFC West champion Seahawks draw the first-place schedule, in addition to their regularly scheduled games against their divisional opponents. The NFC's AFC opponent is the AFC West. The NFL tells us the Seahawks open the 2026-27 season at Lumen Field on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 8:20 p.m. on NBC. The NFL normally begins the season on the Thursday after Labor Day. This year, the game between the San Francisco 49ers and Rams in Australia airs in the U.S. during prime time Thursday night.

The NFL announces its full schedule sometime in May. However, it's expected that the Opening Night matchup will be made known beforehand.

The only other time the first game of the NFL season was played on a Wednesday came in 2012 when the Dallas Cowboys visited the New York Giants. The game was moved from its usual Thursday spot that year because President Barack Obama spoke that night at the Democratic National Convention.
