NFL Week 12 Best Bets: Harmony Captures City Of Brotherly Love

It's all love in Philly after the Eagles beat Detroit Sunday night. (USA TODAY)

Harmony returns to the City of Brotherly Love in our Week 12 NFL Best Bets. The Philadelphia Eagles restocked their defense at the trade deadline, have mollified A.J. Brown’s concerns, and returned on track for a potential return to the Super Bowl.

The Rams and Eagles enter the week at 8-2 atop the NFC. The Eagles weathered a choppy October in which they lost 2 straight and triggered grumbling in the locker room and beyond. But 4 straight wins – capped by a Philly special 16-9 rock-fight win over Detroit Sunday – as the Eagles are on a flight plan to win the NFC East and possibly clinch home field in the conference. This week, the Birds nest at Jerry World in the national doubleheader game on FOX, and you can place your wager on the games at the best sports betting sites.

The Eagles beat Dallas 24-20 to open the NFL season as they celebrated their Super Bowl 59 title. But they whiffed as 8-point favorites. Expect a different outcome this week.

Buffalo Bills at Houston Texans, 8:15 p.m. (Prime Video)

Buzz: Josh Allen – almost – singlehandedly beat the Tampa Bay Bucs and scored the home cover as 5.5-point favorites in a 44-32 win. Buffalo’s decisive win, for now, abated those nagging concerns that had buried Northern New York under two feet of lake-effect doubt. It revived the immediate future of the Bills during a season in which their biological clock is ticking louder than Big Ben at midnight on New Year’s Eve. Houston (-7.5) needed a field goal at the gun to escape with a 16-13 over Tennessee at home. Allen remains on a rampage to reach the playoffs and beyond. Houston comes off two straight wins, but continues to master mediocrity. It hasn’t won or lost more than 2 straight games all season. The Bills, meanwhile, are back.

Drake Maye
Don't look now, but Drake Maye and the Patriots have a piece of the best record in the AFC. (USA TODAY)

Sunday, Nov. 23
New England Patriots at Cincinnati Bengals, 1 p.m. (CBS)

Buzz: The Drake Maye MVP Express is on to Cincinnati. It’s 2005 again in Foxboro. The 9-2 Patriots have won 8 straight, own first place in the AFC, and a share of the best record in the NFL after brushing off the Jets Thursday night. Cincinnati’s defense yields 33 points per game. It got smoked by Pittsburgh again on Sunday in a 34-12 loss. The Patriots have not surpassed a point total on offense in 7 weeks – and only once this season. But New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and Maye cook up one of those OG 40-plus point performances that New England enjoyed throughout Tom Brady’s heyday. All 20 seasons of it. By the way, the Patriots own the best record in the AFC against the spread at 7-3-1.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Chicago Bears, 1 p.m. (CBS)

Buzz: Maybe it was just Matt Ebeflus. Don’t look now, but the Monsters of the Midway (7-3) own a piece of first place in the NFC North. Ben Johnson took the head coaching job in the Windy City after serving as offensive coordinator in Detroit. But it’s the Bears' defense, conducted by Dennis Allen, that’s clawing through the opposition. This week, it was the woebegone Vikings who were kept out of the end zone until the 4th quarter. The Bears won – and covered – 19-17 on the road as 3.5-point underdogs. Expect Allen to be at his best in game-planning against Aaron Rodgers, Mason Rudolph & Friends. And those 34 points Pittsburgh scored against Cincinnati’s wax-paper defense can’t be considered as a harbinger this week.

Best Bet: Bears -2.5 (-110) ESPN BET via OddsJam

New York Jets at Baltimore Ravens, 1 p.m. (CBS)

Buzz: The Jets come off a bruising Thursday 27-14 loss to the Patriots in a game where the line floated from 10.5 to 13.5. They may be down to Mark Sanchez on the depth chart by kickoff. The Ravens missed the cover (-8.5) in their surprisingly tough 23-16 win over Cleveland. Baltimore, winners of 4 straight, continues to trend in the right direction toward a potential playoff spot. At 5-5, they’re tied with the Chiefs in the Wildcard race. Gang Green is 5-4-1 on the number. This one screams back-door cover.

Best Bet: Jets +14.5 (-110) ESPN BET via OddsJam

New York Giants at Detroit Lions, 1 p.m. (FOX)

Buzz: The Lions limp home after a tough 16-9 loss at Philly. Dan Campbell’s offense this week finds its footing in the indoor friendly confines of Ford Field. Big Blue lost Cam Skettabo to injury, their coach to the unemployment line, and five straight games. That streak hits 6 this week. The Lions replicate their performance from 2 weeks ago, in which they beat NFC East foe Washington 44-22.

Minnesota Vikings at Green Bay Packers, 1 p.m. (FOX)

Buzz: J.J. McCarthy may not be the answer in Minnesota, after all. The Vikings’ offense stalled at home against Chicago on Sunday in a 19-17 loss. The Packers beat what’s left of Big Blue Sunday at MetLife 27-20, but missed on the 7.5 points number. In this battle of the NFC North Afterthoughts, Green Bay holds the edge with RB Josh Jacobs expected to play. But not this number. Take the points.

Best Bet: Vikings +6.5 (-110) BetMGM via OddsJam

Indianapolis Colts at Kansas City Chiefs, 1 p.m. (CBS)

Buzz: This game offers both teams a season-defining test. The Colts come off the bye and an overtime win in Berlin two weeks ago. The Broncos found just enough holes in KC’s defense to grab a thrilling 22-19 win Sunday. That defeat dropped the Chiefs to 5-5. The Chiefs get another chance at the AFC’s elite this week. If anyone can figure out a way to stop Daniel Jones and limit Jonathan Taylor, it’s DC defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. The Chiefs, meanwhile, will need at least 3 TDs to keep up here. KC has won 15 straight games as home favorites. The Colts have not beaten a team over .500 on the road this season. Last call for Mahomes Magic in 2025.

Seattle Seahawks at Tennessee Titans, 1 p.m. (FOX)

Buzz: What better way for the Seahawks to rebound from a crushing and mistake-filled 21-19 loss to the Rams than with a weekend in Nashville? Sam Darnold threw 4 picks, and Seattle was kept out of the end zone for 57 minutes Sunday. Still, the Seahawks had a chance to win it with a field goal at the gun. The 1-9 Titans long ago entered the HOV lane in the race for the No. 1 overall pick. Don’t fear the Noon Central Time start for the West Coast Seahawks. Seattle is 3-0 east of the Mississippi this season. This has NFL-reversal-of-fortune week written all over both end zones. At least in terms of which team covers.

Best Bet: Titans +12.5 (-110) FanDuel via OddsJam

Jacksonville Jaguars at Arizona Cardinals, 4:05 p.m. (CBS)

Buzz: The Jags took advantage of a warm Florida day and an early East Coast start to short-circuit the Chargers 35-6 Sunday. The Cardinals, meanwhile, dropped their 2nd straight NFC West game Sunday and 7th of their past 8 overall. They continued their surge toward irrelevance. Buried in that 41-22 loss to San Francisco was this garbage-time-driven stat line from Cardinals backup QB Jacoby Brissett: 47 for 57, 452 yards passing, 2 TDs, and 2 INTs. The Jaguars remain unconvincing on the road.

Best Bet: Cardinals +2.5 (-110) BetMGM via OddsJam

Cleveland Browns at Las Vegas Raiders, 4:05 p.m. (CBS)

Buzz: The Raiders played host to Jerry Jones and the Cowboys Monday night. Las Vegas has covered in 3 of 4 games heading into that one. QB Sheduer Sanders made his much-anticipated NFL debut for Cleveland on Sunday after Dillon Gabriel suffered a concussion. Young Prime went 4 for 16 with 47 yards, a pick, and 2 sacks. So much for that debate. But the Browns grabbed the back cover as 8.5-point underdogs in a 23-16 loss to Baltimore. The Raiders should be able to counter whatever offense the Browns can muster. This game offers the lowest posted total of the season at 37.5 points.

Best Bet: Raiders -3 (-110) BetMGM via OddsJam

Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys, 4:25 p.m. (FOX)

Buzz: Tom Brady comes to Jerry World to deliver his analysis in the FOX National Game of the Week. The Eagles stabilized their defense at the trade deadline, and it paid off handsomely in a gritty 16-9 referee-aided win over the Lions. Whatever distraction A.J. Brown generated appears to have abated. Winning cures everything. The Eagles beat Dallas 24-20 to open the NFL season and celebrate their Super Bowl 59 title. But they whiffed as 8-point favorites. Expect a different outcome this week. The Cowboys visited Las Vegas Monday night.

Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints, 4:25 p.m. (FOX)

Buzz: The Falcons keep finding heartbreaking ways to lose. In successive weeks, Atlanta lost by one point to New England after a doinked PAT try; got caught at the gun and lost in OT to Indianapolis in Berlin; and fell in overtime at home to the Panthers. Sunday, they were 5.5-point favorites before losing 30-27. New Orleans, meanwhile, beat Carolina ahead of the bye. Given this number, oddsmakers don’t expect Michael Penix to play this week. (Penix re-aggravated his knee injury late Sunday and is expected to miss significant time.) QB Kirk Cousins takes the ball for Atlanta. The Saints have run out of rungs on their QB depth chart, as well. The Falcons figure it out this week. You like that? We do.

Best Bet: Falcons -1.5 (-110) BetMGM via OddsJam

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Los Angeles Rams, 8:20 p.m. (NBC)

Buzz: The Rams kept the Seahawks out of the end zone for 57 minutes Sunday – but needed a missed field at the gun to hold on for a 21-19 victory. Rams QB Matt Stafford stands as the favorite in MVP betting markets. While the Bucs may win the NFC South – again – (watch out for Carolina), they remain in danger of losing their third straight here. Until Sunday, the Bucs had covered in 7 straight games after a loss. But their defense has been exposed in consecutive weeks by New England and Buffalo. Baker Mayfield remains a baller among baller. But – to quote Gisele Bündchen - Baker cannot throw the ball, catch the ball, run the ball, and stop the other team from scoring with the ball. By the way, make sure your Thanksgiving Day turkey is out of the freezer and in the fridge before kickoff.

Best Bet: Rams -6.5 (-110) BetMGM via OddsJam

Monday, Nov. 24
Carolina Panthers at San Francisco 49ers
, 8:15 p.m. (ABC/ESPN)

Buzz: The 6-5 Carolina Panthers have emerged as a threat to end Tampa Bay’s reign in the NFC South. More impressive: Carolina’s 7-4 record ATS. The Niners got Brock Purdy back just in time to mount a playoff run. This number suits Carolina, as the Panthers have covered in 11 of 12 as underdogs in the NFC. That includes their 16-13 outright win as 13-point dogs at Green Bay three weeks ago.

Best Bet: Panthers +7 (-110) DraftKings via OddsJam
