After a surge in the betting, Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has been cut from 10/1 to 5/1 to become the next Chelsea manager, with 888Sport making him third favourite for the job.

Current boss Maurizio Sarri is walking a tightrope at Stamford Bridge, at 1/4 to be the next Premier League manager sacked, and Lampard has been backed by bettors to replace him – leading to bookmakers cutting his odds.

Lampard is only in his first season of management, leading Derby to 7th in the Championship table as things stand – but given his Chelsea connections, he’s being increasingly fancied to take the step up to the Blues.

Former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is the current favourite in the betting, sitting at 2/1, with another Stamford Bridge legend Gianfranco Zola in at 5/2.

Elsewhere, notable names include Guus Hiddink (9/1), John Terry (14/1), Jose Mourinho (18/1) and Antonio Conte (22/1).

Chelsea are a huge 4/1 to beat Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, and failure to lift the trophy could see Sarri given his marching orders from Stamford Bridge.

An 888Sport spokesman said: “It looks like days, rather than weeks, before Maurizio Sarri is fired from Chelsea – so attention has turned already to who will replace him at Stamford Bridge.

“After a surge in support, we’ve cut Frank Lampard’s odds from 10/1 to 5/1 – and he’d certainly be a popular choice amongst the Blues faithful."
