It looks like sports fans in Oregon will have to wait a few more weeks before they can enjoy online sports betting.

The Oregon State Lottery has been developing its sports betting app, Oregon Lottery Scoreboard, and it looks like it may finally launch soon, just not in time for the first few weeks of the NFL season.

Initially, the Oregon State Lottery was aiming for the opening day of the NFL regular season, Thursday, for their soon-to-be-released sports betting app to launch.

However, the state now confirms that it will be launched two or three weeks into the season.

The Oregon Lottery sports betting app will offer online and mobile wagering for players, and it will be available everywhere within the state line, except for sovereign Native American lands.

Difficulties in Oregon Scoreboard’s Launch

On Aug. 22, AP News reported that the delay of the Oregon State Lottery’s sports betting app is because of the need to design interfaces between the games and various acquisition technologies that have been developed over the past several years.

Spokesman Matt Shelby spoke on the Oregon Lottery Scoreboard launch date and said that it will be two or three weeks into the NFL regular season and that the testing was going fine.

On Aug. 30, the manager of sports betting for the Oregon State Lottery, Kerry Hemphill, said that the app is still being tested and won’t be ready until late September or mid-October, despite having 40 employees working full time on the app, Portland’s Willamette Week reported.

Over the Memorial Day Weekend, at the Oregon State Fair, the lottery featured a Scoreboard Arena in Cascade Hall. The Scoreboard Arena featured numerous games for fair attendees to win prizes, and they also got to view videos about the Oregon Lottery Scoreboard.

Scoreboard to Feature Only Professional Sports

Oregon is the 12th state to legalize sports betting in the U.S. Last week, the Siletz tribe’s Chinook Winds Casino opened Oregon’s first sportsbook.

Chinook Winds offers sports betting for nearly every professional sport. In addition, they also take wagers for NCAA sports, unlike the upcoming Oregon Lottery Scoreboard.

The Oregon State Lottery recently issued a press release and emphasized that it will only be for professional sports. Oregon State Lottery Spokesman Chuck Baumann expounded on the Scoreboard app and listed some of the professional sports available for players.

“Players are anxiously waiting for the release of Scoreboard. We’re in the final testing phase and just want to ensure the game and player accounts are fully functional and secure prior to release of the game. Once the game is launched, the list of professional sports players will have access to includes the NFL, NBA, Major League Baseball, Major League Soccer, PGA, even NASCAR.”

Oregonians wanting to place wagers on NCAA will have to do so at a physical casino, and they soon will have more options than the Chinook Winds. The Mill Casino in North Bend will soon offer sports betting, including the NCAA.

But for Oregonians who primarily focus on professional sports, they will soon be able to place bets from the comfort of their homes when Oregon Lottery Scoreboard is launched.
