Trade rumors are swirling around Los Angeles Kings center Phillip Danault. We break down the latest speculation and odds on where Danault could land by the 2025-26 NHL trade deadline, and what fans at US sportsbook sites might look for.

Danault has requested a trade after an unproductive start to the season; the veteran is still searching for his first goal. The Kings, seeking more scoring consistency, ideally seek a young forward in return. Here are our Phillip Danault trade odds:

Will Phillip Danault Be Dealt?

Danault is in his 12th year in the league and, though he has always been a responsible two-way player, his lack of offensive production at center for the Kings suggests there’s fire behind the smoke about a potential trade in Tinseltown.

The 32-year-old center from Quebec has two years of team control remaining on the free-agent deal he signed with the Kings in 2021, meaning whichever club lands him has plenty of control over his near-term future. He’s an unrestricted free agent after the 2026-27 season and, according to Spotrac data, he is making $5.5 million this season and next for a franchise that holds +3000 odds at BetMGM Sportsbook, as of Dec. 19, to win the Stanley Cup this season.

Four times, Danault has been in the top 10 in voting for the Selke Award, given to the NHL’s top defensive forward. That includes an eighth-place finish in 2021-22, his first season in L.A., when he also set career highs for goals (27) and points (51).

But this season, his lack of offensive productivity is a concern. Danault, who has missed the past four games with the flu, has zero goals and five assists in 30 games. He is on pace for career lows in both categories for a full season. In 2024-25, he lit the lamp eight times and dished out 35 assists in 80 games.

Elliotte Friedman of Canada’s Sportsnet has reported that Danault is on the trade block. NHL general managers might be looking at the veteran forward, who has played 741 NHL games, ahead of the March 6 trade deadline. At FanDuel Sportsbook, the Kings have an over/under of 96.5 points, with the over getting -128 odds and the under at +100.

Who Could Land Phillip Danault?

Danault played 360 games for the Montreal Canadiens from 2016 to 2021. So it’s likely little surprise to learn that the Habs are our top landing spot for Danault’s services, with a 31.3% chance of landing the forward. That would mean +220 odds if sports betting apps offered the prop.

Going into play on Dec. 19, Montreal (18-12-4, 40 points) is second in the jam-packed Atlantic Division, but with a minus-8 goal differential. Thus, it seems like a smart idea for the team to look for a bit of veteran help at center, making a deal for Danault sensible.

Also keep an eye on the New Jersey Devils, who check in at +350 odds on our list to land Danault ahead of the deadline. They are on the edge of a playoff spot and should look to improve their minus-5 goal differential by adding a defensively strong veteran center.

Then you have the increasingly distant (+400, in this case) scenario where Danault and the Kings stand pat. After winning 2-1 on Thursday at Tampa Bay, the Kings lead the Pacific Division with 39 points, potentially inspiring the veteran center to stick it out. At bet365 Sportsbook, the Kings have +1200 odds to win the Western Conference, tied for fifth on the operator’s board.

Los Angeles Kings Salary Cap Situation

The Kings don’t necessarily have to move their veteran center, as they have just over $1.2 million in salary cap space available, according to Spotrac.com data. That gives L.A. ample contract room to maneuver around this season.

Should L.A. pull the trigger on a Danault deal, a few potential longshot contenders include the Carolina Hurricanes (+800), Minnesota Wild (+1400) and Seattle Kraken (+2200) as teams that could swoop in and make a deal for him in the coming days, weeks or months.

It seems Danault and his camp are ready for a change of scenery as the center sees his status decline (his average ice time per game is 16:19, his lowest since 2016-17 with Montreal). It could be a sign to seek a new team as the race for the Stanley Cup playoffs heats up across North America. For now, the two-way center will have to ply his trade under gloomy conditions in sunny California, as the Kings and Danault look to find a long-term solution that leaves everyone satisfied in Tinseltown.
